Kylie Minogue keeps mum on tour plans

KYLIE Minogue's X2008 tour has been confirmed for Europe between May and August but, so far, the star has kept her local fans in limbo with no Australian dates confirmed.

"Hopefully the tour will come here. No doubt it will happen," Minogue told the Herald Sun yesterday.

"I'm sure everyone's wary of overloading me when I haven't even gone into rehearsals yet.

"The last thing I would want to do is have people buy tickets and me not make it, like last time (Minogue's 2005 Homecoming tour was postponed after she was diagnosed with breast cancer).

"That sounds dramatic but I just need to take it one step at a time. So far I think it's fair.

"I'm going to some countries I've never been to before."

The singer was scheduled to meet promoter Michael Gudinski in Sydney last night about a possible Australian leg for the tour.

Minogue will be in Germany for her 40th birthday on May 28 and her tour itinerary has kept the date free.

"I haven't planned anything yet but I'm always last-minute with my birthdays," she said.

"I do know I don't want to stay in my hotel that night."

The pending milestone has reignited rumours about plastic surgery.

"You're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't," Minogue said of the constant speculation about her looks.

"If you look terrible people say, 'Oh my God, she looks horrible!' If you look great people say, 'Hmmmm, she looks too great', so you might as well do what you want."

After a holiday in Melbourne, Minogue embarked on a Sydney jaunt yesterday to promote her X album.

She made a visit to Sydney's Children's Hospital, which stretched to 2 1/2 hours.

"Kids who hadn't smiled in ages had a smile on their face as soon as they saw her," a Minogue spokeswoman said.

Minogue's year began with an OBE for services to music.

"It was a total surprise, really amazing. My mum and dad were thrilled. The phone didn't stop ringing," she said.

Today she flies to LA to film back-to-back videos for her next two singles, Wow and In My Arms.

While in LA, Minogue will be honoured at the G'Day USA gala on January 19.

Grease fan Minogue's award will be presented by John Travolta, while Olivia Newton-John will also sing.

"I grew up with Grease -- I've been waiting for this moment since I was eight years old," Minogue said.

Minogue enjoyed a low-key Christmas-New Year.

She stayed off the radar at her French Island retreat, before being spotted in Melbourne over the past week.

"I was extremely boring," Minogue said.

"I went to all my regular haunts -- Cafe E Cucina, Il Bacaro, Nobu and Rockpool."

Minogue was also a regular at the Greville St headquarters of designers J'Aton, who have made the dress she will wear at G'Day USA.

Her fansites were swamped with sightings in Prahran.

"That (dress) took three fittings, I was in Greville St a lot," Minogue joked.

She also saw the exhibition of her friend Nick Cave at the Arts Centre.

But Minogue didn't find time to examine the sculpture of her in Docklands.

"I would like to see it. I do feel very honoured to have a statue in my hometown," she said, adding she was surprised at its hands-in-the-air pose.

"I'm not sure that's one of my poses."

Farewell to princess with daredevil streak

BRIANNA
Uplifting: family and friends release balloons in tribute to the
spirit of brave young Brianna Rogers yesterday. Picture: Ian Currie

BRIANNA Jayde Rogers touched more lives in her 12 years than others would in 80. Tobin Brothers Chapel in Ringwood overflowed yesterday as family and friends farewelled the little girl who inspired fellow cancer sufferers Kylie Minogue and Delta Goodrem.

Brianna lost her five-year battle with a rare form of pelvic cancer one week ago.

She was remembered as a little princess with a daredevil streak, who loved animals so much her family's property resembled a zoo.

When she was too sick to go shopping, Brianna scoured catalogues for Christmas presents for mum Fiona, dad Ray and teenage brother Daniel, and took up card-making to make personal notes for those she cared about.

Eulogiser Glenda Newton urged mourners to remember that only Brianna's suffering had ended, not her love. "She taught us about love, about giving . . . and now, in her passing, she teaches us about letting go," Ms Newton said.

Brianna met Kylie Minogue in 2003 after being diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, and gave her support when the superstar later fought her own battle with breast cancer.

She met another hero, Delta Goodrem, in late 2005, when Goodrem visited the Royal Children's Hospital to thank doctors who treated her during her battle with Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Brianna's grade 5 teacher, Mieke Alexander, from Mooroolbark East Primary School, said Brianna was "a rascal" who taught her teacher some valuable life lessons.

Principal Graeme Whitby also praised Brianna's brother Daniel, described as exceptionally caring and unselfish.

Pink and purple balloons were released by her distraught family, who included a poem in the Order of Service.

One stanza read:

They say memories are golden

Well maybe this is true

But we never wanted memories

We only wanted you.

Aussie singer Kylie Minogue has revealed that she is dating again after her spilt with French actor Olivier Martinez last year.

The 39-year-old singer admitted that she was seeing someone, but would not reveal her beau’s name.

"I enjoy dating, so I'm not totally alone. Don't worry about it," News.com.au quoted her, as saying.

"It's not that long ago I came out of my last relationship, "A year had gone by really quickly with me running out of illness and trying to just embrace health as much as possible. So I haven't really had that much time to sit and feel like where's Mr Right?

"I'm sure he's making his way," she added.

The Aussie singer also revealed that she is planning to bring her new live show KylieX2008, to Australia as soon as possible, but has no firm dates yet.

"I know it hasn't been announced here yet. I just want to have in my head more solidly what the tour will be and if I can manage what I've planned so far," said Minogue.

"Of course I would love to come back here. We are plotting and planning right now," she added.

New look but no bump... Kylie Minogue Photo: Reuters

SHE has a curvy new look but unlike her Hollywood counterparts Cate Blanchett and Nicole Kidman, there are no baby bumps on Kylie Minogue.

The pop singer is embarking on an ambitious world tour, beginning in Paris in May just weeks before her 40th birthday.

In an interview yesterday on Seven's breakfast television program, Sunrise, Minogue said she looked forward to touring Australia with her show, KylieX2008, despite cutting back on her gruelling tour schedule after her battle with cancer.

"The main difference is I do two shows in a row and then have a night off, which pains me because I like to keep going and go with the momentum. But that worked out well last time," Minogue told the fill-in Sunrise hosts Larry Emdur and Samantha Armytage.

"I used to do three or four and then the next day off was a travel day to get to the next location, so that's a big change," she said.

Thousands squeezed into Martin Place yesterday to see Minogue in a figure-hugging leopard-print dress and stilettos.

KYLIE MINOGUE: von Comeback enttäuscht
14.01.2008

John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John To Honor Kylie Minogue

Kylie Minogue will be honored by two of her heroes, John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John at a gala dinner in Los Angeles this weekend.

The gala event will be on at the Renaissance Hotel on Hollywood and Highland on Saturday night.

Tickets for the event ranged from $300 to tables of $3600, $6000 and $10000 with a Platinum $20,000 package which offered a white glove service and wine upgrade.

Kylie, who suffered breast cancer, is being honored by Olivia, also a fellow breast cancer sufferer.

Kylie spoke of her excitement about the event this morning on Australian television but called John Travolta "John Revolting" when referring to him. (Australian DJs used to announce 'You're The One That I Want' as being by Olivia Neutron Bomb and John Revolting).

"Do you think he'd mind me calling him John Revolting?" she said on the Sunrise program.

Kylie this week released 'Wow', the second single from her 'X' album.

John Travolta
John Travolta... HE IS ONE SHE WANT - OOH, OOH, OHH

KYLIE Minogue will fulfil a lifelong ambition this week when she cozies up to the man she cheekily calls "John Revolting". The superstar revealed yesterday she had been preparing for the moment since she was eight years old.

Minogue will be honoured at the annual G'Day USA gala dinner on Saturday night by "John Revolting" - better known as John Travolta - and her inspiration and fellow breast cancer survivor Olivia Newton-John.

Minogue said yesterday Travolta was her silver screen idol and she had been practising dance routines from the '70s hit Grease.

"Do you think he'd mind me calling him John Revolting?" she playfully asked her manager yesterday. "I've been practising for this since I was eight"

After a holiday with family in Melbourne the beloved entertainer is back on the treadmill, promoting her latest album X, the upcoming single Wow and trying not to reveal when she will tour Australia.

"I hope I'll tour ... I'm not free until August," she said, careful not to spill the beans until her long-time promoter Michael Gudinski has signed the deal.

Her annual New Year's break, spent playing aunt to 20-month-old nephew Charles, enjoying cups of tea with mum and dad and checking out her good mate Nick Cave's retrospective exhibition, proved to be "very quiet".

"It was very quiet in Melbourne, which was wonderful. It was just what I needed, but at the same time it was a little creepy," she said, joking about the absence of her paparazzi shadows.

The pack was back yesterday as she chatted at the Park Hyatt and later spent a few hours visiting the Sydney Children's Hospital in Randwick.

While the dance pop anthem Wow is expected to propel the eclectic X back up the charts, Minogue said she was confounded by criticism the album was not dominated by songs about her health battle.

"The only bit of criticism was saying that it wasn't that personal," she said.

"It's taken me a while to figure out what I thought about that and my conclusion was that I finished three songs that were personal - Stars, No More Rain and Cosmic.

"Having been ill, I didn't want to write about being ill, not a whole album. I wanted, for my own sake, to do what I do, which is songs like Wow, In My Arms, 2 Hearts.

"If I had done an album that was totally personal there would be comments the other way."

Kylie Not Coming To Mardi Gras
Local News, By Christian Taylor
14.01.2008

Kylie Minogue

This morning Kylie appeared as a special guest on a particularly nauseating episode of Channel Seven’s Sunrise. The questions from hosts Larry Emdur and Samantha Armytage were particularly run of the mill, they asked about Christmas in the Minogue household, whether Kylie is dating at the moment, what’s her favourite food...

It wasn’t until they took questions from a fan outside that things got interesting. When asked if she would be performing at Mardi Gras, Kylie said apologetically, "I think I’ll be getting ready for my tour then." She did add that she’d be up for doing it some other time.

Which kills the Kylie rumours that all gained momentum from DNA and Sydney Confidential whispers.

So who will be the special guest at this year’s Mardi Gras party? We’ll just have to wait and see.

Kylie Minogue may leave EMI
By Daniel Kilkelly
13.01.2008

Kylie Minogue has become the latest pop star rumoured to be in dispute with record company EMI.

The singer has been disappointed with the performance of her comeback album X, which has so far shifted 315,000 copies. It is expected to narrowly avoid dropping from the Top 40 today.

Sources have claimed that Kylie blames EMI, which owns her label Parlophone, for sales failing to match her expectations.

"It has not been the massive comeback Kylie has hoped for and the blame has to fall at someone's door," an insider told the Daily Star Sunday. "It is hoped that the flagging sales will pick up with the release of her second single, 'Wow', but if not it could be curtains for her relationship with EMI."

A spokesman for Parlophone records said: "This is not something I want to comment on at this stage."

Robbie Williams has gone on strike against EMI, while Coldplay are also said to be considering their future with the label.

Dancer again ... Kylie Minogue goes back to dance as fans go
online to beat release day

THE digital music revolution is keeping Kylie Minogue fans happy with thousands grabbing her new single two months before its official release.

Wow, Minogue's anticipated return to her dance-friendly sound after experimentation with the glam pop of Two Hearts has already debuted in the UK top 40, on downloads and airplay.

The single is also charting in telco top 20s here as Australian fans download it to mobile phones despite most having the track from her X album.

"As soon as we (said) that was going to be the next single, everyone started downloading it even though they already have it on the album," a spokeswoman said. "It won't be officially released until February 15 but radio here start playing it from Monday."

Minogue, who whirls into Sydney on Monday to promote the single release, will shoot a new video for the track in Los Angeles where she will also be honoured during G'Day USA week.

While she has announced her European tour last month, Australian fans are unlikely to see Minogue back in Australia until the end of the year.

Minogue has been enjoying her annual Christmas break with her family in Melbourne, dining at the exclusive Nobu restaurant and checking out her good mate Nick Cave's retrospective exhibition.

She will be honoured, with film director Phillip Noyce, at the annual G'Day USA gala dinner in Los Angeles on January 19, with her idol Olivia Newton-John scheduled to perform.

Kylie set for Shakespeare role?
11.01.2008

Kylie Minogue
Will Kylie do more TV?

Kylie Minogue apparently impressed BBC bosses so much with her festive turn on Doctor Who, they are already lining her up for other TV roles - including a spot of Shakespeare.

The petite pop princess stole the show's Christmas special when she starred as a doomed Titanic waitress and now it seems the Beeb want her to follow in the footsteps of the Time Lord's former sidekick Billie Piper.

A source told The Daily Telegraph: "The Doctor Who Christmas special was fantastic for us and Kylie was no small part of that success, so we're trying to get her on board for other BBC drama specials."

The insider added: "Billie Piper did Shakespeare for us brilliantly and we think Kylie would be just as good. Or maybe she could even turn up as herself on Ashes To Ashes..."

But a spokesperson for the 39-year-old singer couldn't confirm whether there are any such projects in the pipeline.

"She gets offers all the time which she and her manager review, but there is nothing specific being discussed at the moment," the spokesperson is quoted as saying.

Little angel Brianna's brave battle inspires stars
Grant McArthur
11.01.2008

Kylie Minogue and Brianna in 2003
Brianna first met Australian singer Kylie Minogue in 2003.

A YOUNG girl who inspired stars Kylie Minogue and Delta Goodrem used her last words to tell her family how much she loved them.

Brianna Rogers, 12, lost her five-year battle with a rare form of pelvic cancer on Tuesday after holding on to share Christmas and New Year with her family.

The talented young dancer from Mooroolbark shared a strong bond with Minogue as the two fought cancer, meeting and exchanging messages of support.

The energetic youngster is featured in the star's recent documentary White Diamonds, running around and collecting sequins from Minogue's stage dresses during a backstage meeting in 2006.

A year earlier, Brianna met Goodrem at the Royal Children's Hospital after the singer beat Hodgkin's lymphoma.

They shared a big hug as Goodrem carried her around the room.

Brianna's mother, Fiona, said meeting the stars helped her daughter get the most out of life and eased the pain of fighting cancer.

"We always wondered if she was so close to both Delta and Kylie because of that link with the illness," Mrs Rogers said.

"Brianna said the best part about being sick and in hospital constantly was meeting these people, and it meant so much to her.

"The amount of kids Kylie had met . . . but Brianna felt so special and that she had stood out because Kylie remembered her.

"She just wrapped her arms around Delta and Delta just lifted her up and carried her around the room.

"It was just beautiful and it touched so many people."

Brianna first met Minogue in January 2003, when the star jumped up on her bed at the Royal Children's Hospital and gave her a cuddle.

Brianna was diagnosed with Ewings sarcoma just two months earlier.

When her idol was diagnosed with her own cancer, Brianna sent Minogue a message of support and they met again for afternoon tea shortly before Christmas in 2006.

Goodrem met Brianna while visiting the hospital to thank doctors and medical researchers who saved her life.

Brianna also used her story to highlight the work of the Royal Children's and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, and to raise money for cancer research.

After losing the use of her legs in the final months of her life, Brianna spent much of her time making cards for her loved ones, surrounded by her parents and brother Daniel.

Her father, Ray, said Brianna was full of beans until her kidneys shut down before Christmas.

Doctors told the family they would only have a few days together.

However Brianna held on to enjoy Christmas with her family, before slipping into a coma after the New Year.

"She is a little angel who has now got her wings," Mr Rogers said.

"She held on to see Christmas and New Year, and she opened her presents but was too sick to play with them, so they are still in boxes.

"New Year she opened her eyes and saw the fireworks on TV, then the last words she said to us was that she loved us.

"That was her last words to her brother, to her mother and me. It is great memory to have."

Courageous Kirsty is mum’s Little Star
by Jane Picken, Evening Chronicle
10.01.2008

BRAVE Kirsty Foster may only be five but she has already fought off an aggressive form of cancer.

And now the schoolgirl, from Ashington, Northumberland, has been honoured with a special award after fighting acute lymphoblastic leukaemia for the past two years.

With the cancer now in remission, the youngster was handed a Little Star Award from charity Cancer Research UK, backed by pop singer Kylie Minogue, after being nominated by mum Alison Peart, 37.

Kirsty was just two-years-old when chemotherapy treatment for her cancer started, and the youngster spent the two Christmases before last in hospital too ill to go home.

As her treatment finished in August Kirsty will undergo an operation later this month to remove an intravenous line used to feed vital medication into her body through the chest.

"The cancer and chemotherapy is all Kirsty has ever known because it all started when she was so young," said mum Alison, who also has nine-year-old daughter Chloe.

"But she took it all in her stride, and that’s why I wanted to nominate her for the award.

"Kirsty and Chloe have had a really bad couple of years. They are both my little stars and I’m very proud of the way they have shown such strength. Kirsty’s treatment has finished now and we are looking to the future."

The Little Star awards are designed to highlight the courage of youngsters who have experienced cancer.

All children nominated receive the accolade in the form of a Little Star trophy and a certificate signed by a host of celebrities including Kylie Minogue and Dr Who star David Tennant.

Kirsty’s condition came to light when worried Alison found unexplained bruises on her body, which doctors initially put down to a virus.

But when a rash appeared blood tests at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Hospital revealed Kirsty had leukaemia.

"The rash was sign that she was dangerously ill," explained Alison. "It was such as terrible shock.

"One day Kirsty was a happy toddler running around and the next she was in hospital being treated for cancer."

The family suffered another scare last year when Kirsty became sick, but it proved to be a false alarm.

Kirsty, a pupil at Central First School in Ashington, has twice lost her hair due to cancer treatment.

"She has been so brave in coping with the treatment," added Alison.

"Kirsty just gets on with it. I’ve nominated her for a Little Star award because I wanted to acknowledge just how brave both Kirsty and her big sister Chloe have been."

Around 370 children are diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in the UK every year.

"We are delighted that Kirsty has been nominated for a Cancer Research UK Little Star Award," said Julia Haran, from Cancer Research UK, which supports the Children and Adolescent Cancer Unit at the RVI.

"This is the fifth year that Cancer Research UK’s Little Star awards have celebrated the nation’s child cancer patients and survivors, recognising the unique challenges faced by young people diagnosed with cancer."
