Kylie Minogue OBE lets her hair down as she pops from palace to pub
04.07.2008Kylie Minogue was in high spirits last night after receiving an OBE from Prince Charles, trading the imposing surroundings of Buckingham Palace for celebrations at a local pub.
The Australian singer let her hair down with a night out at the Admiral Codrington in Kensington hours after collecting the prestigious honour.
She emerged from the pub just before midnight, her trademark smile still in full beam as she finally called it a night.

momentous dayKylie, whose hits include I Should Be So Lucky and Can't Get You Out Of My Head, had been honoured for services to music during the ceremony.
Her conversation with Prince Charles flowed for an unprecedented 33 seconds (something of a record in investiture terms).
And Miss Minogue, 40, demonstrated a little Australian informality when she said her goodbyes, clutching Charles's outstretched hand in hers - a technical breach of etiquette which left the prince looking delighted.
Home time: The pop star called an end to the celebrations just before midnightAs to what passed between the prince and the showgirl, she said: 'He just asked what I'm up to at the moment and was happy to see me better,' - a reference to her successful fight against breast cancer.
'If anyone had told me when I was 14 that one day I would be with my family at Buckingham Palace, I just wouldn't have believed them,' she said.
The diminutive singer wore 5in heels for the ceremony but still had to look up to Charles, who was standing on a podium.
Minogue first appeared on British television in the mid-1980s soap opera, Neighbors.
She has since sold millions of albums and had hits such as I Should Be So Lucky and Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi.

One should be so lucky: Kylie OBE breaks protocol by shaking hands with Prince Charles (and he was royally tickled)
By Rebecca English
04.07.2008FOR most, it's a polite handshake, a curtsey and a 'how do you do?' lasting a few seconds.
When you're Kylie Minogue, things are different. As she collected her OBE from Prince Charles yesterday in the imposing surroundings of the ballroom at Buckingham Palace, the normal rules were forgotten.
First of all, the conversation flowed for an unprecedented 33 seconds (something of a record in investiture terms) as a smiling Charles spoke in hushed tones to the 40-year-old singer.

Spinning around: Kylie takes a moment to pose with the the BeefeatersThe Princess of Pop certainly showed her star quality as she arrived at Buckingham Palace, dressed in an eye-catching Yves Saint Laurent dress, she fairly trotted over the gravel approach in five inch gold heels.
Prince Charles was standing in for the Queen.
The OBE is the latest honour in the 40-year-old's glittering career.
Since getting her big break in Neighbours in the 1980s, she has enjoyed seven UK number ones, a string of hit albums, beaten cancer and even launched her own perfume.
Minogue, from Melbourne, is also the most played female artist on UK radio in the last 20 years.
The eldest of three children, she starred in a several children's TV shows in Australia.
Proud: Kylie shows off her OBEIt was her younger sister Dannii who was initially tipped for big things.
But Kylie's career soon took off as she landed roles in Australian dramas Skyways, The Sullivans and The Henderson Kids.
It was while playing Charlene in the hit soap Neighbours that Minogue won the hearts of the British public.
Her romance, both on and off-screen, with fellow star Jason Donovan captured viewers' imaginations and millions tuned in to see Charlene wed Donovan's character Scott Robinson in 1987.
Minogue became the first actress to win four of Australia's TV Logie Awards on one night and her success on the small screen provided the perfect springboard for a musical career.
Her vocal talents came to light when she was spotted performing Little Eva's The Loco-Motion at a charity event with fellow Neighbours stars.
Family affair: Kylie arrived at the palace with her parents Ron and Carol in towA Melbourne record label released the song, which topped the charts in Australia, and British producers Stock, Aitken and Waterman latched on to her talents.
Her debut album, which included The Loco-Motion, I Should Be So Lucky and Je Ne Sais Pas Pourqoi, sold more than five million copies worldwide.
Minogue initially struggled to cast off her girl next door image but the video to 1990's Better The Devil You Know refashioned her as a sexy adult.
Since then, Minogue's successful attempts at recreating herself have kept her at the top of the charts.
A relationship with INXS rock singer Michael Hutchence fuelled her desire to seek greater credibility.
She parted company with Stock, Aitken and Waterman to join dance label Deconstruction, before a dark duet with Nick Cave on Where The Wild Roses Grow further broadened her appeal.
Her eponymous sixth album in 1998 featured collaborations with acts such as The Manic Street Preachers and Brothers in Rhythm, with Minogue penning all the lyrics.
She had continued to pursue her acting interests, starring in movies such as Streetfighter, with Jean Claude Van Damme.
It was the 2000 release of Spinning Around, which shot to number one with the help of a pair of now famous golden hotpants, which secured her spot as one of the world's top performers.
She lit up the closing ceremony of Sydney's Olympics the same year then enjoyed sell-out tours and another global hit Can't Get You Out Of My Head.
In May 2005, Minogue was diagnosed with breast cancer and was forced to put her career on hold.
But she returned to the stage just 18 months later, having undergone chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and used her "time off" to write children's book The Showgirl Princess.
In May this year, she was given the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government for 'contribution to the enrichment of French culture'.

Kylie MinogueA peace campaigner who was contemplating suicide changed his mind after hearing a Kylie Minogue track.
According to NME, a man known as 'The Ninja Ant' had planned to kill himself to protest against the war in Iraq.
As Minogue's 2000 single 'On A Night Like This' started on his MP3 player, the protestor changed his mind as he was about to stab himself in the chest.
Appearing at Southwark Crown Court to answer charges of carrying a blade without good reason or lawful authority, he said: "Thinking about it, the song was my downfall.
"How can anyone be violent when they love Kylie's music? It's not possible."

Kylie's still got the X appeal
01.07.2008
Top form ... backstage with KylieIT has been a star-studded week working on Bizarre.
Meeting the amazing GEORGE SAMPSON yesterday, watching famous faces at Glastonbury all weekend . . .
And I met KYLIE on the opening night of her UK tour in Belfast.
The singer was on top form as she played the first of her sell-out gigs on a four-night run at the Odyssey — with her mum Carol in the crowd cheering along.
The songbird even stayed out in the hotel bar until 2am having a few glasses of wine with her friends, family and crew.
She told me: “The tour has been demanding so far in Europe.
“I am covered in bruises. Climbing on top of a huge skull every night is a dangerous game.”
Dedicated mum Carol had been to every gig on the European leg — with the exception of just one.
The Kylie X tour goes to Glasgow next, then Manchester, Newcastle and London.
You wouldn’t normally catch me at a Kylie concert, but she put on a good show.
Pop fans will love the outfits, the dancers and all her big, chart-topping hits.
And lads, the Aussie lass is still stunning AND she’s single . . .

Kylie 'star at 60, but no hotpants'
01.07.2008
Kylie Minogue revealed she still plans to perform at 60Kylie Minogue has said she can imagine herself still being on stage at the age of 50 or 60 - but she won't be wearing her signature hotpants.
In an interview with Easy Living magazine, the singer, who recently turned 40, said she never felt she was made for an ordinary life.
Speaking about entertaining audiences aged 50 or 60, she said: "But I won't be wearing hotpants any more!
"A while ago I sang I Should Be So Lucky as a romantic torch song on Later... With Jools Holland.
"Jools accompanied me on the piano, and I can imagine working like that.
"It's difficult to age with dignity in the pop business, but I'd like to think I've managed it so far."
She told how she sometimes dreamt of a long-lasting relationship and a family.
"And then there are days when I think, actually, that's not the right path for me.
"I never really felt I was made for an ordinary life, like a husband and a terraced house in the suburbs."
She denied being back with Olivier Martinez, describing him as "a good friend".

Kylie Minogue: I'm just good friends with Olivier Martinez
01.07.2008
Singer says she hasn't rekindled her romance with the French actor
Kylie Minogue insists she hasn't rekindled her romance with former boyfriend Olivier Martinez.
The singer was snapped in a restaurant in Paris with the French actor last week.
But she's shrugged off speculation their romance is back on.
‘I defy any woman not to find Olivier attractive,’ she says.
‘It was good to catch up and we’re still friends, but there was nothing more in it.’
Kylie, 40, also reveals that her ideal man would be a chef.
‘I’m good at running round the kitchen posing and looking pretty,’ she tells The Sun. 'But I’m afraid I’m a useless cook.
'It’s one thing a man has to be able to do. If he can cook, then he’s off to a good start with me.’
Kylie and Olivier, 42, split last year.

Exclusive: Billy Sloan stole my sweeties, says Kylie Minogue
By Billy Sloan in Belfast
29.06.2008
IT'S one hour before showtime and Kylie Minogue is running around backstage with sweeties.
Kylie with Billy Sloan"Try one of these Billy, they're a present from my friend Jean Paul Gaultier."
I have to confess I did try one... then two...and three.
And I have to take my beret off to the French fashion designer for his taste in calorie-busting French marzipan and nut goodies.
Anyway, I'm sure Kylie wouldn't have wanted one anyway.
The Aussie superstar invited me to join her backstage at the 20,000- capacity Odyssey Arena in Belfast at the start of a four-night, sell-out run to kick off the UK leg of her X World Tour.
The Kylie circus rolls into Scotland for a series of gigs at Glasgow's SECC next month.
Before retiring to her vast wardrobe area to get dressed for the show, Kylie - now fully recovered from her battle with breast cancer in 2005 - took time out to tell me she has never felt better.
The singer celebrated her 40th birthday on the road in Greece in May and the landmark date was not as traumatic as she had expected.
"Does life begin at 40? It might because I'm feeling great," she said.
"But I was quite relieved to have the actual day done. I was with my family - we had a small dinner - at a table full of flowers. It was lovely."
On the eve of the X Tour, Kylie was photographed snuggling up to her ex-boyfriend, hunky French actor Olivier Martinez, in Paris. She stayed tight-lipped about any rekindling of the romance and the official line from her camp is they are"good friends".
For now, Kylie is focusing 100 per cent on performing.
She said: "I'm getting stronger as the tour goes on. Every show has been different and it's been great. That's the joy of playing live again.
"I've really enjoyed the freedom of the X Tour. In the past my shows were very choreographed and I had to be in one place at certain times.
"Now whenever I dance, I dance and go wild."
Earlier that day, Kylie had warmed up for the gig by going shopping in Belfast's designer mall Victoria Square. It is just a stone's throw from her HQ, the chic Malmaison Hotel where she was holed up in the £400- a-night Love Suite.
Close friend Gaultier created the spectacular look for her £10million tour, which boasts a 12-piece band, 14 dancers and acrobats.
During the show she makes seven costume changes, transforming herself from elegant model to a cheerleader, Japanese geisha and Napoleon-style military leader.
It's a far cry from her first pop experience as a 14-year-old.
Kylie said: "The first big gig I went to was Boy George and Culture Club in Melbourne.
"I had all the ribbons tied to my hair just like he used to wear. It made a big impression.
It was my first live show and I'd never been to anything with such a massive audience.
"I'm a child of the video age, so I dreamed that one day I'd be in a position like that myself."
During her gig - which included Can't Get You Out Of My Head, On A Night Like This and first hit I Should Be So Lucky - I don't think I've seen Kylie sing or dance better.
On Like A Drug, she sailed on stage on a giant 30ft jewel-encrusted Damien Hirst-style silver skull.
Her proud parents Ron and Carol - sitting two rows in front of me - clapped and sang along throughout.
They have chalked up 26 shows on the trot and are thrilled to watch their daughter in action every night.
Kylie has also become a real quick-change expert to cope with her seven costume changes.
"There are times when I'm behind the stage with one leg coming out of one costume and the other leg going into the next one," revealed Kylie.
"It's like the Muppets back there. I often just make it. It's craziness.
"Because I still have ear monitors in I talk really loudly - like someone listening to their iPod on the bus.
"But, touch wood, so far I haven't missed a cue. But I've been close."
Kylie now has her sights set on returning to Scotland.
In the 80s, she played one of her first headline roadshows at the tiny Coasters Dance Hall in Edinburgh.
In 1995, she made her UK festival debut at T in the Park - a set which featuring a memorable duet with pal Nick Cave on ballad Where The Wild Roses Grow.
Now she can't wait to return. Kylie said: "I'm looking forward to coming back to Scotland.
"Scots record producer Calvin Harris has promised he'll come to the show. See you there."
Kylie plays Glasgow's SECC on July 5, 6, 8 and 9.

Kylies Spiel mit Lack und Leder
Kleine Sängerin - Riesenshow
28.06.2008
Kylie elektrisierte in BelfastDüsseldorf (RPO).

Kylie to receive OBE next week
By Belinda Tasker in London
28.06.2008POP princess Kylie Minogue will be awarded her OBE from the Queen during a glitzy ceremony at Buckingham Palace next week.
Minogue, 40, found out in December that she was to receive the prestigious honour for her services to the music industry.
A Buckingham Palace spokeswoman confirmed Minogue will be presented with her OBE at Buckingham Palace on Thursday.
However she will miss out on meeting the Queen, who will be in Edinburgh for the Scottish cultural event known as Holyrood week.
The Australian star is instead expected to be presented with her OBE by Prince Charles.
Minogue is expected to be among a group of about 100 people who will be presented with various honours in Buckingham Palace's grand ballroom.
When the Queen's New Year honours were announced in late December, Minogue was holidaying with her family in her home town of Melbourne.
At the time, she said she was "deeply touched" to receive an OBE from the country she calls her adopted home.
"I am almost as surprised as I am honoured to be awarded an OBE by Her Majesty the Queen," Minogue said.
"I feel deeply touched to be acknowledged by the UK, my adopted home, in this way.
"This last year I have felt so much love and support from everyone as I took greater steps back into the public domain, and it is with absolute gratitude and joy that I say farewell to 2007 and look forward to what the New Year will bring."
Minogue's OBE caps off more than two decades of massive success for the singer, who first hit the top of the Australian music charts in 1987 with her single Locomotion.
She went on to enjoy massive success in Britain, where she teamed up with hit producers Stock, Aitken and Waterman.
Since then the former Neighbours star has released nine studio albums and sold out six world tours. Minogue has also launched her own perfume, lingerie line and homewares collection.
Minogue, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and split with her French actor boyfriend Olivier Martinez last year, kicked off the UK leg of her X2008 tour in Belfast yesterday.
She is yet to announce tour dates for Australia.

Kylie Minogue in Belfast: after 20 years of singing Kylie still has the X factor
27.06.2008Isabel Albiston reviews Kylie Minogue at the Belfast Odyssey Arena
Kylie Minogue has an awe-inspiring work ethic. One month after celebrating her 40th birthday and more than 20 years since her first number one, the indefatigable singer last night embarked on the UK leg of her X2008 tour with a show at the Odyssey Arena.
The indefatigable Kylie Minogue at the Belfast
Odyssey ArenaBilled as Kylie's biggest and most expensive tour to date - it has cost £10 million to stage - X2008 will need to impress to live up to the flamboyance of her hugely successful 2006 Showgirl Homecoming tour. It promotes X, Kylie's 10th studio album.
Rather than drawing on her experiences of being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and splitting from her long-term boyfriend Olivier Martinez two years later, Kylie has stuck to what she does best and X is a fun, light-hearted pop album.
Although the record has had a lukewarm reception, tickets for four nights at the Odyssey were snapped up by fans who expect her to deliver nothing short of a spectacle. They were not disappointed. Opening the show with Speakerbox, Kylie first appeared suspended in the air in a giant gold hoop. Her PVC-clad dance troupe wore biker helmets and gyrated suggestively, setting the tone for a show that redefined the word camp.
The production took a surprising turn when Kylie and her dancers performed Heartbreak Rock dressed as American footballers against a stars and stripes backdrop, and there was a hint of high school drama production about the troupe's re-enactment of the story of Lola, the Copacabana showgirl, when Kylie covered Barry Manilow's song.
A French chateau was the setting for a ballroom dancing sequence and performance of On A Night Like This, for which Kylie wore a horse riding ensemble that bore the signature of Jean Paul Gaultier's who designed the costumes. Though much of the show was pure theatre, Kylie appeared alone to perform the ballad Flower and On A Night Like This, hitting the high notes and singing with considerable emotion.
But the highlight of the show came when she rode onto the stage on board a giant Damien Hirst-esque skull to Like A Drug, one of the best tracks on X.
Kylie remains a compelling performer and the show was pure fun from start to finish. I had a poster of Kylie on my bedroom wall when I was nine and she was launching her post-Neighbours pop career. Twelve years later I danced to Spinning Around on the sticky floor of my student union bar. Last night I rose to my feet, swayed my arms and sang along to Kids with the rest of the crowd.

How does Kylie weave her magic?
26.06.2008She's a superstar singer who has worked hard at her career and bravely battled cancer. As she begins a run of shows in Belfast tonight, Chrissie Russell and Kerry McKittrick ask local figures what makes Kylie Minogue so special
'It's amazing how she keeps reinventing herself, continually trying to develop'
Claire Sproule (24) is a singer and songwriter from Londonderry. She says:
I'm not really a big Kylie fan, it's not really my sort of music, but I can see her talent. I remember her more from Neighbours, of which I was a big fan in the early days. Although it's funny, I spent some time in Australia recently and wasn't aware of as much of a Kylie obsession as we get here.
I think Kylie totally deserves all the positive press she gets and her continued success is down to the fact that she has great music people working for her. She's released some great club records and she has a huge fan base that spans lots of different communities.
It's amazing how she keeps reinventing herself, continually changing and trying to develop herself. As a recording artist one lesson I'd definitely take from Kylie is her strong work ethic. I don't think it was her choice to have her battle with cancer played out in the media and I think she actually did quite well at trying to keep herself to herself. I'm sure all she was focused on was the cancer and I thought it was really admirable the way she dealt with it.
Even though I'm not a big fan I'd still definitely be interested in going to one of her gigs just because it would be something special to see.
Her over the top shows are not something that I would want to recreate myself but they are brilliant and an example of how Kylie is not just about the music.
With Kylie you get a whole package. She puts her heart and soul into what she does which is where she's maybe different to people like myself — I like the songwriting and performing my music but I'm never going to put on a show like Kylie.
And I'll never be putting on a pair of gold hot pants either!"
'I think she looks really good for her age now, and the music's a high standard'
Lauren Hood (25), Northern Ireland WAG and managing director of hair extensions company hairhostess.com, says:
I've been a Kylie fan for years — although probably of her earlier music more than the later.
I think hers might even have been one of the first albums I got but my dad managed to tape over it and I was gutted.
My favourite song was always Especially For You and, like every Neighbours fan, I remember watching the big wedding between Scott and Charlene. But what I really wanted was to own the polka dot dress that she wore in the video for I Should Be So Lucky. She rebelled in the 1990s a bit when she was going out with Michael Hutchence. I guess she had to do it but I missed the girly music and the whole time I just wondered 'what's happened to Kylie?'.
I think she looks really good for her age now, but the music's just not as good as it was and sometimes her stage outfits are a bit much. Madonna can get away with her stage performances because her new music is still of as high a standard as ever, but Kylie's not the same level. I was really shocked when it was announced she had breast cancer. I suppose we see celebrities as invincible but no matter how famous you are or how many millions are in the bank there are things that can't be controlled.
Kylie handled it all really well and it was good that she disappeared for a bit and did what she needed to do.
She should probably slow down a bit now, especially after the hectic few years she's had. It would be really lovely to see her settled down. I was gutted when she broke up with Olivier Martinez — I thought they were lovely together but you never know, it might still work out."
'She's all glitz, a good singer and a brilliant showwoman'
Vicky Pitchers (31) presents the Bigger Breakfast on Belfast's Citybeat radio. She says:
I worked at the breakfast show on Radio Forth in Edinburgh, and one of the people I interviewed was Kylie. We did a feature with everyone we interviewed and I sang a duet with them. We sang The Darkness's I Believe in a Thing Called Love.
Kylie is one of the most professional people I've ever interviewed and really knows how to play the game. When she's being interviewed she knows she has a job to do and a record to promote. She always remembers to call you by name, which surprisingly few people actually manage to do — and there's no diva behaviour, no list of approved questions like there would be for some.
I liked her in Neighbours, everyone did. I wasn't too keen on her music when she was with Stock Aiken and Waterman; I started to like her again in her collaborations with Nick Cave. I love her recent stuff, I think she's constantly reinventing herself and always up for anything. She's a good singer, maybe not the best in the world but she's a brilliant showwoman. She brings back all the glitz and glamour of the 1940s and 50s. When she was diagnosed with breast cancer it was terrible. As for her on-off boyfriend, Olivier Martinez, there must be something about him for her to keep taking him back."
Kylie flies in for Belfast shows
By Maureen Coleman
26.06.2008Superstar Kylie Minogue was jetting into Belfast today for a four night residency at the Odyssey Arena — amid growing speculation that she is back in the arms of former lover Olivier Martinez.
The pop princess, who turned 40 last month, will begin the UK leg of her X tour in Belfast tonight in a show which has been described as "one of the great performances of the early 21st century".
The multi-million pound tour — believed to be her most expensive to date — has been getting rave reviews across Europe, but it is understood Kylie took time out before the Belfast shows to fly to Paris to meet Martinez.
Several national newspapers today carried photographs of a laughing Kylie enjoying lunch with the French actor, her parents Carol and Ron and stylist William Baker at a pavement cafe in Paris.
The couple split in February 2007 following Kylie's battle with breast cancer. But they have remained friends and she has visited Paris several times to see him in the past year.
However, the latest reports claim Martinez was stroking her hair and massaging her neck, suggesting that the pair have rekindled their romance.
Martinez was spotted at Kylie's show in Paris recently but sources say it is unlikely he will accompany her to Belfast.
Kylie hasn't played in Northern Ireland as a headliner since 1990, when she performed at the King's Hall. She returned to the city in 1997 as a guest of Nick Cave, who was performing as part of the Belfast Festival.
She will play the Odyssey tonight, tomorrow, Sunday and Monday.
