Commuters want Kylie, not the Queen
25.08.2008POP star Kylie Minogue would have no trouble finding a seat on a tram, train or bus, but Queen Elizabeth would possibly find herself standing.
A survey of Melbourne's public transport users found that given a choice, they would rather sit next to Minogue on the tram, train or bus, than model Megan Gale, comedian Barry "Dame Edna" Humphries, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, TV star Eddie McGuire, the Queen or footy player Buddy Franklin.
While Minogue was the most popular figure picked across all age groups, the Queen failed to rank as most popular for any age group.
Men would most like to sit next to Gale, but if that wasn't possible they would choose AFL footballer Franklin.
Commuters aged over 50 wanted to share their seat with the PM, while those earning less than $30,000 wanted to sit next to the man who came from the outer suburbs and became a television star, McGuire.
Women's pick of the bunch was, in his own persona, Humphries.
The survey conducted this month, was of 401 Melburnians, who were offered choices from well-known Melbourne people.

Dannii Minogue elixir: Kylie breast cancer battle

Dannii MinogueIT may be hard to see an upside to breast cancer, but TV favourite Dannii Minogue has revealed she has gained strength and confidence from her sister Kylie's brave battle with the disease.
Minogue, who also lost her best friend to breast cancer, says overcoming her own fears has helped re-energise her career.
On a professional high, as a judge on Australia's Got Talent and its UK equivalent, the former Young Talent Time star believes the power of positive thinking has helped her in kicking work goals.
Poised to swing onto the American showbiz stage, after signing a US agent, Minogue said: "It's always scared the daylights out of me before, but (work) is falling into place and there's something to be said for believing that when it all feels easy, it's when it's very right.
"I'm sure there's an amount of this newfound energy from my (late) friend. Now she's not here, I feel her presence so strongly. I often think she'd want me to do it. I think she's urging me on," Minogue told the National Breast Cancer Foundation's Pink magazine, out this Thursday.
"Experiencing cancer at close hand, from friends and family with the disease, has given me a bit more confidence to go for it."

Behind the scenes on Kylie's new video

The promo for Kylie's new single, The One, is a sexy, glamorous piece in black-and-white with flashes of primary colour and the pint-sized diva at her most sultry. To direct the promo, she turned to Ben Ib, who had also created her tour visuals. We caught up with him to talk about how the piece was created.
DA: What was the brief for the project?
BI: Kylie sent me a really detailed brief with loads of amazing images, from Man Ray to Rodchenko, through Donna Summer and The Jackson 5. We had worked together on her tour visuals, so she was familiar with the type of work I do. I came up with a treatment inspired by some of her references, heavily based on the era of the 1940s.
DA: What were your conceptual ideas and influences?
BI: Initially the idea was very Rodchenko. But the storyboard included various images of Carol Lombard and Veronika Lake, and it seemed to grow organically from this look that Kylie pretty much devised. So the whole Art Deco thing stemmed from this. We wanted the look to be 1940s Hollywood, but not retro -- like a 1940s vision of the future. Personally my inspiration came from a wide range of places: Bauhaus graphic design, Art Deco architecture, Marcel Duchamp short films, Fritz Lang's Metropolis, The Wizard of Oz, Saul Bass' title sequences. Basically all the things I like!
DA: How did you turn this into the final promo?
BI: We shot the video against greenscreen in Manchester, where Kylie had a day off in the middle of her X tour dates. The shoot was fairly simple with a few props and various costume changes. We also filmed two dancers, Jason and Nikki. Kylie's performance was impeccable. Not one mistake!
DA: What was the biggest challenge you faced, and how did you overcome this?
BI: The post deadline was extremely tight -- initially about a week. I tend to be pretty hands-on with my videos and do a great deal of the post myself, as my background is in 3D and motion graphics. Or maybe I'm just a sucker for punishment! But luckily I had a very talented gang of motion-graphics artists and compositors to help out this time. But it was still a serious amount of late nights and strong coffee.
DA: What software did you use to create the piece, particularly the motion graphics?
BI: The backgrounds were created in Maya using Mental Ray and the 2d work was done in After Effects. The keying and finishing was done in Flame.
DA: At times it looks very much like elaborate stage lighting, with characters appearing in front of these vivid, changing backdrops. Was the promo influenced by your stage design work?
BI: The influence was definitely on stage lighting, but really the film stages of the 1940s rather than the live stage. The look of real stages, such as those used by Busby Berkeley, Hitchcock (eg Spellbound), Fritz Lang etc I think have a beautiful sense of depth. The fact that they are constructed rather than built on a computer gives them something which is more imaginary and organic. The sense of scale is beautifully imperfect. So the inspiration was definitely from constructed stage sets -- but of course, built on a Mac!

Es wird eines der besten Hotels sein an einem ganz besonderen Ort auf der Welt. Auf einer künstlichen Insel und da auch noch am besten Platz, nämlich direkt in der Mitte am nördlichen Ende der Palme. Hotelgäste erreichen das Hotel über einen sechsspurigen Unterwassertunnel mitten vor der Küste Dubais. Einfach gigantisch was die Scheichs aus Dubai alles bauen. Das Atlantis Hotel verfügt über 1.539 Zimmer, wobei die teuerste Suite 19.000 Euro am Tag kostet.

Sisters rework 'The Winner Takes It All' for 'Beautiful People'

The Minogue SistersSinging sisters and Dannii Minogue have recorded a cover of ABBA's 'The Winner Takes It All' for a television sitcom.
The song is set to be the theme tune for the new BBC2 show 'Beautiful People', which stars Meera Syal.
Dannii, who is currently presenting 'X Factor', is reportedly also keen to get back into singing full-time again. The Sun quoted the Aussie singer as saying: "I really miss singing so I am planning to do some more next year."
Dannii and Kylie regularly performed a duet of Robbie Williams' 2000 hit single 'Kids' on Kylie's last world tour.

Die Liedzeile lautet im Original: “‘Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl’ (zu Deutsch: Ihr Name war Lola, sie war ein Showgirl). Allerdings hat der Liedermacher diesen Änderungsvorschlag abgelehnt.
Ein Insider erzählt der Gossip-Seite ‘MSNBC’: “Bruce war wütend. Er sagte Kylie: ‘Auf keinen Fall. Ihr Name ist Lola. Nicht Lola Minogue und auch nicht Kylie.
Neulich hat Dannii, die kleine Schwester von Kylie verlauten lassen, sie würde gerne wieder mit ihrer großen Schwester kooperieren. “Ich möchte auf jeden Fall ein Duett machen. Es geht nur noch darum die richtige Sache und die richtige Zeit zu finden. Ich vermisse das Singen. Deshalb plane ich, es etwas öfters im nächsten Jahr zu machen. The Australian singer - who has been performing the upbeat track during her 'KylieX2008' tour - is planning to record the track for release, but is said to have angered the lyricist Bruce Sussman by asking for the woman's name in the song to be changed from Lola to Kylie.
Kylie wanted the lyric, "Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl" to be changed, but Bruce refused.
A source told gossip website MSNBC: "Bruce was furious. He told Kylie, 'No way. Her name's Lola. Not Lola Minogue, not Kylie.' "
Kylie's sister Dannii recently revealed she wants to vocally collaborate with Kylie again in the future.
Dannii said: "I definitely want to do a duet, it's just about finding the right thing and the right time. I miss singing so I am planning to do some more next year. I did a duet with Kylie on her tour last year - we sang 'Kids' which was amazing. Every time we watch it back, we fall about laughing, especially when we are swinging each other around because we used to do that on roller skates when we were young."

Wow!? Just to clarify, Rachael has never been filmed as a body double for Kylie and that's not Rachael in the H&M TV commercial!
Rachael has been employed a lot in the past as a lighting stand-in - the idea being that whilst Kylie's in make-up the lighting technicians have someone approximating Kylie's build to focus their lights on.
We know that Kylie loves Rachael as a very professional stand-in. Kylie says, "We've worked on a number of things together and she has always been a pleasure to have on set."
Kylie.com just wants you to know that no part of Rachael has ever been used on film as Kylie.

Die australische Sängerin und Schauspielerin selbst würde nichts lieber tun, als mit ihrer Schwester bald wieder zu kollaborieren.
“Ich möchte definitiv ein Duett mit ihr machen, wir müssen nur das richtige Stück und die richtige Zeit finden. Es fehlt mir zu singen. Deshalb plane ich, nächstes Jahr mehr zu machen”, so die kleine Minogue. “Ich habe letztes Jahr ein Duett mit Kylie auf ihrer Tour gemacht- wir sangen ‘Kids’ - es war fantastisch.”
Der damalige Auftritt ist ihr immer noch in guter Erinnerung. “Wann immer wir uns daran zurück erinnern, können wir uns vor Lachen kaum halten. Besonders, wenn wir uns gegenseitig im Kreis drehen, das haben wir nämlich damals auf Roller Skates gemacht”.
Das bringt ihre Gedanken auf die guten alten Tage. “Für uns bedeutet das, so zu sein, wie wir als Kinder und Schwestern waren - ohne all das, was inzwischen passiert ist.
Die Leute meinen, dass ich nicht gerne über Kylie spreche, aber das könnte falscher nicht sein. Ich verstehe es, warum mich Menschen nach ihr fragen”.
Auf ihre Schwester ist sie jedoch nicht eifersüchtig. “Sie ist unglaublich berühmt und so viele Leute lieben sie, deshalb interessieren sich so viele Leute dafür, wie es ist ihre Schwester zu sein. Das ist normal. Wir sind unterschiedliche Menschen, deshalb gab es untereinander keine Konkurrenz.”
Dannii verriet außerdem, glücklich als allein stehende Frau zu sein. Dennoch würde sie für ‘den richtigen Mann’ alles aufgeben. “Dass würde ich für den richtigen Mann tun”, sagte sie dem britischen Magazin ‘Cosmopolitan‘. “Ich verfluche jedoch meine Eltern.
Ich sage ihnen: ‘Es ist eure Schuld, dass ich Single bin!’ Sie haben uns eine solch schöne Kindheit geschenkt – meine Mutter blieb zu Hause während mein Vater arbeitete. Ich habe solch große Hoffnungen, es auch so machen zu können.”
Allerdings ist sich nicht sicher, ob ein Dasein als Hausfrau und Mutter wirklich das Richtige für sie ist. “Gleichzeitig liebe ich meine Karriere und hätte Probleme zwischen den beiden zu entscheiden. Außerdem verbringe ich sechs Monate in England und sechs Monate in Australien. Wo finde ich den Mann, der das mitmacht?

She added to Britain's Cosmopolitan magazine: "I would for the right man. I curse my parents though. I say to them, 'It's your fault I'm single!' They gave us such a great childhood - my mother stayed at home while my dad went to work and I have such high hopes to recreate that.

She and Mathew became pals after he appeared in her ITV special The Kylie Show last year, playing her personal assistant in a sketch, and they stayed in touch. A TV insider said: "Now she is returning the favour. "Her name will be mentioned in some of the sketches before she appears as a punchline at the end of the series." Corden and Horne Have Come will be shown on BBC3 next year.

When the new series of The X Factor kicks off next Saturday night, all eyes will be on the two gorgeous girls sitting in the judges' chairs.
And the question on everyone's lips will be: "Will Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole hate each other as much as we think they will?"
But as the nation braces itself for catfights and bitch-fests, reigning X Factor queen Dannii, 36, is showing her softer side to the new girl at work.
If X Factor judge Dannii doesn't like what she sees..."Cheryl's been through a very tough time so I went to her dressing room on the first day of filming to introduce myself and wish her luck," says Dannii.
"She was so nervous, her hands were shaking. I was just like that when I started – utterly terrified."
But is trouble brewing? After all, Cheryl, 25, has already thrown a killer punch when she criticised Dannii's looks, saying: "I think she should get all her plastic surgery reduced. She doesn't look natural. I don't think men find her attractive." Ouch!
Dannii replies: "It's true that Girls Aloud have said some unfortunate things about me, but you can't hold on to things like that.
"When we do get to spend time together, I hope we get on. I don't ever want to go through the same atmosphere as before."
Ah, yes. The last series of The X Factor was marred for Dannii by bitchy criticisms made by fellow judge Sharon Osbourne.
Sharon, 55, who has since quit the show, accused Dannii of being "talentless and only here because Simon fancies her".
Dannii hits back: "For some reason, Sharon did not like me. I don't know what I did to upset her, and on several occasions I went to her to try to sort things out.
"It's not the sort of behaviour I've ever been exposed to before. My response was to just focus on my artists and win the show."
Which she did, with 18-year-old Leon Jackson. Mentoring is a role she relishes, and which has given her status beyond being the little sister forever following in Kylie's footsteps.
...or doesn't like what she hears...Dannii shakes her head. "Last year was a weird time for me," she admits.
"The year before was the toughest of my life. My sister was ill with breast cancer and I thought I was going to lose her.
"Then I lost my best friend to cancer and I was in pieces."
Three months later, she got the call from Simon Cowell to join the panel on ITV's biggest-rated talent show.
But what about the rumours, put about by Sharon, that Dannii was only there because Simon fancied her?
Sharon was reportedly miffed when Simon chose to take Dannii's arm at the start of each show.
"Simon's lovely, but no, not true," Dannii laughs. "And yes, he would hold my arm when we walked down the steps, but that was because I was wearing a long dress and high heels and I was terrified of falling!
"And anyway, have you seen his girlfriend? She's gorgeous!"
As is Dannii – though speculation has been rife about the surgical enhancement she may have had along the way.
She has always been open about having breast implants, but denies she's had any other work done. She attributes her flawless skin to a healthy diet.
"When I'm being good, I eat no wheat or dairy and I try to cut out alcohol," she says. "I'm a complete freak because I don't like sugar or chocolate.
...she finds it hard to hold her tongue!"As a child, I'd beg for avocados and olives instead of sweets, and I think that – along with being happy – helps my skin. I'm not against surgery but I'm not ready to have anything done yet."
Dannii also works hard at keeping her size 8 figure in shape.
"But I have flaws," she insists. "At the moment I'm working out to lose my little muffin top because I'm going on holiday and I don't want horrible bikini snaps.
"I go to the gym and I work out in the park three days a week with friends."
Dannii maintains there's no long-term man in her life, despite rumours that she's dating again.
So does she fear that like Kylie, she may be unlucky in love?
"I blame our parents!" she says. "They've been married forever and have the best relationship, and we have too much to live up to.
"I don't feel ready for children yet. If the right guy came along I'd be happy, but I'm picky. And not everybody has to get married and have children to be happy."
So how wicked is Dannii willing to be with this year's X Factor contenders?
"I'm tough, but sometimes I feel very guilty when people get upset," she admits.
"However, I don't believe we're shattering dreams because we're explaining to people why they are good or why they are bad.
"I love being a judge. I'm not afraid to tell someone if they're awful, just like I'm not afraid to leap up and down if I love someone."
Let battle commence…
The X Factor starts on ITV1 on Saturday night.

As soon as she emerged floating above the stage suspended on a creation part-giant spider's web, part-halo, Kylie Minogue held her adoring fans in the palm of her hand.
There were glitter cannons, elaborate stage sets and countless costume changes as we saw the nation's favourite popette morph into Japanese Kylie, Cheerleader Kylie, Prince Charming Kylie and Hello Sailor Kylie, which kept the camploving crowd grinning like Cheshire cats.
Kylie relied heavily on the club-friendly beats of her latest album X, but there were also clever takes on old favourites which saw Slow get the heavy metal treatment. And Spinning Around was mixed with disco classic To Be Real by Cheryl Lynn.
The fans loved it even more when Kylie took it down a notch, standing virtually alone in a pretty blue ballgown as she debuted a new track, the beautiful ballad Flower. She seemed at her most relaxed then and happy to take a break from all those frenetic dance moves But best of all was when her talented troop of dancers and acrobats ripped off their tops at the end to reveal T-shirts underneath spelling out WE LOVE KYLIE. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say they were speaking for the entire country.

In the poll conducted by Tesco Mobile, the 40-year-old singer earned the top spot, followed by Kiera Knightley at the second position and Angelina Jolie at the third.
Legendary actress Helen Mirren came in fourth.
Wrapping up the top five was Scarlett Johansson.
Britains Queen also made it to the list of famous women UK blokes would love to call, at the sixth position.
Others on the top ten list are Davina McCall, Charlotte Church, Cheryl Cole, and Lily Allen.

London - Wie viele ihrer Kollegen ist sie dem Schönheitswahn verfallen, doch im Gegensatz zu den meisten steht sie dazu: Sängerin Dannii Minogue spricht über die Eingriffe, die sie ihrem Aussehen zuliebe bisher hat machen lassen.
Erstaunlich offen gibt die 36-Jährige dabei zu: "Sie haben mich nicht glücklicher gemacht. Wenn man plastische Chirurgie mit Glück gleichsetzt oder damit, perfekt zu sein, wird man nie glücklich werden", sagte die jüngere Schwester von Kylie Minogue in einem Interview mit der britischen "Cosmopolitan".

Dannii Minogue for CosmopolitanDannii Minogue has admitted having plastic surgery to "look nice" - but said it has not made her any happier.
The 36-year-old X Factor judge has previously admitted to a boob job. Now she is believed to have had a nose job and botox as well as a boost to her pout.
Asked about surgery, she said: "I've had botox because I want to be the best I can be and look the nicest I can. There's no right and wrong - it's a personal choice.
"It didn't make me happier, though. If you link cosmetic surgery into happiness or to be perfect you're never going to be happy. It's not about being perfect - that's where people get it wrong."
Dannii is known for wearing dresses with plunging necklines. But off camera, she dresses down.
She tells the latest issue of Cosmopolitan, out on Monday: "It's all about Ugg boots and the daggiest tracksuit bottoms you can find."

After 53 dazzling shows in 21 countries, reaching a combined audience of over half a million fans, Kylie's biggest, most lavish and critically acclaimed show to date, KYLIEX2008, reached its European climax on Monday night with the last of seven sold out dates at London's o2 Arena in Greenwich.
It's clear to see why the show has been such a big hit with fans and critics alike. With pioneering graphic staging and theatrical lighting, 14 dancers and acrobats, a nine piece band including a three strong brass section, and 8 stunning costumes from master designer Jean Paul Gaultier, Kylie presented an eclectic mix of classics and tracks from her current 'X' album.
Having 'wowed' audiences throughout Europe since opening night in Paris on May 6th, Kylie raised the bar yet again in triumphant fashion with a production that sparkles, dazzles, impresses, inspires and, most importantly, entertains for every minute of it's two to two and half hours.
It only took one look at the crowd shots on the video screens to see that the fans were wholly enchanted. However they weren't happy to leave the dressing up just to Kylie, many donned home-made T-shirts, colourful banners, pom-poms and cheerleader attire to catch her attention!
At the end of the show Kylie's dancers surprised her by each sporting a t-shirt with a letter which when they all lined up spelt out ‘WE LOVE YOU KYLIE’, and there was little doubt her audience felt the same way.
In a very special message for visitors to Kylie.com, Kylie would like to extend her heartfelt thanks to those who came to see the shows:
