Kylie opens tour in spectacular style
14.12.2008
Back home ... Kylie Minogue performing tonight in Sydney. Photo: Brendan EspositoKylie Minogue has opened the first Australian show of her KylieX2008 world tour in spectacular style.
The singer was lowered down onto the stage in a gold hoop wearing a long, black gladiator-style dress with a thick gold belt, as thousands of fans cheered her on at Sydney's Acer Arena on Sunday.
She delighted crowds singing her song Speaker Phone with robot-style dancers.
"I am so excited to be here," a vibrant Minogue said.
"I am dancing like nobody's looking on the inside."
Minogue sung a mix of old and new hits including Can't Get You Out Of My Head and Spinning Around.
The petite popstar wore a number of impressive costumes, including a cheerleader-style get-up she donned for a while.
This is the last leg of her $20 million concert which has travelled to more than 21 countries.
The tour will wrap up on December 22 in Melbourne - Minogue's home town - before the singer spends Christmas with her family.
About 15,000 fans turned out for the first Sydney show.

Kylie Minogue dropped by animal charity
14.12.2008
Kylie MinogueSinger angers campaigners over Dubai gig.
Kylie Minogue has been dropped as from the list of celebrity supporters of animal charity Marine Connection.
The singer, 40, angered bosses when she was involved in the £20 million launch of the Atlantis Palms Hotel in Dubai – a facility that keeps dolphins in captivity so guests can swim with them.
‘Because Miss Minogue supported a facility that has captive dolphins captured from the wild we can no longer be associated with her,’ spokeswoman Margaux Dodds tells Daily Star Sunday.
Kylie was paid £1.5 million for performing at the lavish event.
The hotel claims the Dolphin Bay attraction is a rescue rehabilitation centre for the injured animals.

A Kylie Minogue you'd rarely see
By Jonathon Moran
14.12.2008
Behind the scenes ... Kylie Minogue gets casual.IT'S the Kylie Minogue the public rarely see. The Australian pop star gave The Sunday Telegraph unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to rehearsals for tonight's KylieX2008 spectacular at Sydney's Acer Arena.
The candid shots reveal her take on casual glam _ trendy white sneakers, a colourful blouse and rolled-up tracksuit pants, not the designer outfits she's normally photographed wearing.
And the images show Kylie hard at work organising the stage show with her long-time tour manager, Sean Fitzpatrick, at Fox Studios.
Tonight's KylieX2008 concert is sold out, but some final-release tickets are still available for Tuesday and Wednesday's Acer Arena shows.
``I've had a lot of fun bringing it together and I'll see you there,'' Minogue said in a message to her fans.
The 40-year-old London-based Australian star, who arrived in Sydney last Wednesday, has spent several months touring the $20-million stage show around Europe, visiting more than 21 countries.
More than 500,000 have seen the two-and-a-half-hour show, which features IMAX-size video and floor screens, a full-scale band with horns section, dancers and production to rival her last visit to Australia on the 2006 Showgirl Tour.
``My music is celebratory,'' she said. ``I'm testing new waters on this tour, and it feels really natural to me.''
American diva Alicia Keys is also in town, looking stunning as she wowed the crowds at her Acer Arena show on Friday and again at the Hunter Valley's Bimbadgen Estate last night.

Kylie Minogue's property price plummets
Luke Dennehy and Nui Te Koha
14.12.2008
The Minogue family has slashed the price of its French Island
getaway, Beauciel. When it was originally put on the market in
February, the asking price was $1.2 million, today it is a mere
$950,000.KYLIE Minogue has been hit by the economic slump. Kylie's French Island getaway, Beauciel, on sale since February, has suffered a price drop, according to real estate agents.
Despite a number of close offers, the dream property is now on sale for between $950,000 to $1,050,000. The original asking price was $1.2 million.
Beauciel is co-owned by Minogue and her family.
They bought the spread three years ago and renovated kitchen, dining areas and gardens extensively. It has two bathrooms and sweeping bay views.

Minogue, who successfully battled breast cancer, said she was ready to move to a new chapter in her life.
"It feels like many things are settling," she said.
"And when they are settled, that will give me the opportunity to take off and do whatever I want to do next."

______________What is your favourite holiday destination?
Oliver
A favourite holiday destination has to be home, Australia! I am usually there a couple of times a year, but it’s such a huge country and there’s a lot I have yet to see. I love both the beaches and the outback.
Hello, Congrats on an amazing tour. What was the reason behind visiting South America and what was your favourite venue?
Jules
I had never toured South America before and it was high up on my to-do list! Many people had told me my music is played a lot there and that I would be made very welcome, so I wanted to find out for myself. The audiences there lived up to their reputation and were incredibly vocal, energetic and enthusiastic. It’s impossible to choose a favourite venue as they all have something unique and special, but the show in Sao Paolo was an absolutely amazing night.
After twenty years in the music business do you ever get stage fright?
Nadia
Absolutely! It’s part of the process and of course some shows are more nerve-wracking than others.
Is it true that you are presenting the Brit awards next year?
Natalie Taylor, 14, Gloucestershire
I’m happy to say I am! I asked if Mat Horne and James Corden would like to present the show with me as we recently worked together. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun with the guys and a lot of dress changes!! Hopefully me, not them!!
If you could single out one moment from your career, what would it be?
Posted by: Tulip2uk
It’s not possible! All the moments, good and bad, play a part in the bigger story, but the one that comes to mind in this instance is when I was seventeen and I recorded a demo tape with three songs. Looking back, it was a pivotal moment.
How has KylieX2008 compared to your previous tours?
I put together a new band for this tour to reflect the style of the album X and this has added a whole new dynamic to the show. Within the normal constraints of one of my shows, screens, moving stage, props, choreography and lighting, there is a sense of freedom in the show. Everything is framed within the minimalist square design of the stage, which has the ability to transform via an illuminated stage.
Ship shape ... Kylie has achieved longevity as a pop music artistWould you ever consider being in a play or musical if you were asked? P.S. Loved the X tour.
Anne-Marie McEwan, London
Yes, both are appealing. It hasn’t been possible to accept a theatre run in either a play or musical at this stage as I am always on the road, but I’m sure it will happen as the few stage experiences I have had were fantastic. I performed as Miranda in The Tempest and was the mystery guest in the Prince’s Trust performance of The Play What I Wrote.
I really enjoy your tap-dance shows (eg. Better the Devil You Know) and also the jazzy songs (e.g. Tell Tale Signs, Automatic Love) and covers of the oldies. I also love the way you sing Crying Game and I really enjoyed Copa Cabana at your concert in Istanbul. Would you ever think of an album only with jazz songs?
Gamze, your greatest fan in Turkey
I performed a jazz set at Café des Flores in Paris a few years ago and absolutely loved it. I think the reason a lot of singers like to perform standards is it allows you to give your own interpretation of the songs. As ‘standards’ you cannot stray too far from the original so your version is respectful but individual. I also took the opportunity on Jools Holland’s New Years Eve show, Hootenanny, to perform the song Come On Strong which was great fun.
Kylie - how often do you get to look at the www.kyliekonnect.comforum? I post comments all the time and wondered if you ever saw them!
Nadia Buxton
I check in on Kylie.com and KylieKonnect.com as it’s such an important way to touch base with fans, so I might just see your message!!
Hi Kylie, Do you have any plans to appear in any movies? I hear a Marilyn Monroe film is in the pipeline.
Tim
I’ve been concentrating on music for such a long time now that I sometimes have to remind myself that I started out acting! I wonder what my life would be like if I had not followed a recording career and instead, focused on the craft of acting. Acting definitely plays a role in music and many aspects of my musical career but I do look forward to more film or stage acting in the future.
Have you ever wished you could switch places with a fan and live an ordinary life for once and they live yours?
Phil Jerome
Some days I would love to have anonymity. Just to watch and explore the world - to be a viewer. And it would definitely be interesting to trade places with a fan and know what it’s like from their perspective and vice versa.
Hiya Kylie, I'm a huge fan of yours and love all of your music. Have you asked Santa for anything special this year?
Angela, Greater Manchester
No, there was no special request to Santa this year!! I know I’ll be with my family so I am all set!
Who is your favourite artist and is there anyone you would love to work with?
Hayley Caton, 15 , Stoke-on-Trent
I can’t choose one as there are so many fantastic performers who each have a unique talent. I’m inspired by many different artists and would leap at the chance to work with some of them. So far I have an amazing list of collaborators with whom I’ve worked so I hope this continues.

Kylie plays the X factor

VIP...Kylie Minogue had a Federal Police escort at
Sydney Airport yesterday.SHE MAY be pint-sized but Kylie Minogue packs an entourage to rival a rap star. The singer touched down in Sydney yesterday afternoon, along with 70 of her nearest and dearest, including her stylist and creative collaborator William Baker, long-term manager Terry Blamey and a host of dancers and crew members for her big-scale concerts.
Some of her international shows have been scaled back but Minogue is reportedly pulling out all stops to give the Australian crowds the full kit and kaboodle production. Her Australian concert dates, starting on Sunday at Acer Arena, are the last stops on the 70-plus-show world tour to promote her sugar-pop album, X.
First stop, however, is an in-store appearance at the Myer city store today to promote her latest fragrance. Fans hoping to smell like Kylie are expected to gather early for Minogue's lunchtime appearance while invited media are under strict instructions not to ask the singer any questions. Instead, the interrogation will be conducted by the smooth-talking (if not hard-hitting) Channel Nine entertainment editor, Richard Wilkins.

Gig review: Kylie Minogue in Auckland
09.12.2008
Kylie performs during her first ever New Zealand concert at Auckland's Vector Arena.Kylie Minogue's first ever New Zealand show had everything a fan of the Aussie pop princess could ask for. Reviewer Chris Schulz checked it out.
Kylie Minogue
Where: Vector Arena, Auckland
When: Monday, December 8She was an Egyptian princess flecked in gold, a saucy American football player decked out in hot pink knee pads, and a sailor-loving Las Vegas showgirl.
But Kylie Minogue looked most comfortable on stage during the first of two sold out shows in Auckland's Vector Arena when she was playing the part of a naughty Russian mistress.
It was one of many costume changes the Aussie pop starlet made during her first ever New Zealand show, and added some welcome raunch after a particularly PG-rated beginning.
Kylie Minogue performs during her first ever New Zealand concert at Auckland's Vector Arena.Emerging in an Egyptian-inspired outfit, Kylie warmed up with hits Speakerphone and Can't Get You Out of My Head as she showed off her stage show, complete with live band, giant video backdrop and talented collection of back-up dancers.
She seemed a little aloof, preferring to win over the crowd with her super theatrical stage outfits and choreographed routines than with any chit-chat.
It was a point proved by the sit-down crowd's screams when Kylie donned a cheeky gridiron outfit with streaks of hot pink and high heels for her Hey Mickey-aping hit Heart Beat Rock.
Kylie Minogue performs during her first ever New Zealand
concert at Auckland's Vector Arena. The wholesome nature of the show seemed assured when Kylie refused to don her infamous gold short shorts for signature single Spinning Around, instead letting the dancers shake their stuff for her.
When she squeaked out a timid "thank you" at the end of ballad I Believe In You before running to the side of the stage, Kylie seemed positively shy.
Perhaps she was embarrassed by the long wait her New Zealand fans have had to endure to see the icon in the flesh. Twenty years? Where the bloody hell have you been, Kylie?
But she came out of her shell in a major way at the show's half-way point, donning a raunchy red number complete with Soviet hat for a particularly sizzling version of Slow.
Kylie Minogue performs during her first ever New Zealand concert at Auckland's Vector Arena.Surrounded by a team of bondage-themed dancers - including leather-bound guys and near-topless girls - Kylie cut through the family friendly atmostphere with a performance that would have put The Pussycat Dolls to shame.
With her dancers humping the ground, each other and pretty much anything they could grind their rumps against, Kylie writhed around in a cage and mouthed super sexy come-ons to the crowd.
It showed that turning 40 and overcoming breast cancer couldn't stop Kylie from sexing it up with the best of them. Charlene from Neighbours sure has come a long way.
It also pushed Kylie to come out of her shell as she bounced around the stage for 2 Hearts, handwaving anthem Kids and disco-inspired hits Step Back In Time, Better the Devil You Know and Love At First Sight.
With that much disco, it's no wonder she's so popular among the gay community.
Kylie Minogue performs during her first ever New
Zealand concert at Auckland's Vector Arena.Things hit a bum note with an unnecessary Las Vegas theatrical segment that saw Kylie cover the theme from Love Boat and Barry Manilow's Copacabana against a backdrop of topless sailors.
And the various costume changes meant the show lacked cohesian and a little spontaneity.
But as robot dancers glided around the stage and glitter rained down on the crowd during trip-hop rave anthem No More Rain, Kylie proved she had been worth the wait.
It takes a lot of balls to perform a cheesy pop nugget like I Should Be So Lucky - one of Kylie's first ever hits from her days as a Stock, Aitken and Waterman pop puppet - in front of 12,000 fans.
But to end a show with it? Only Kylie could get away with something like that.

Kylie Minogue gibt Alicia Keys den Vorzug
09.12.2008

Review: Kylie checks out Alicia Keys in concert
By Joanna Hunkin
08.12.2008
Alicia KeysCynics might think she was checking out the competition. But as Kylie Minogue danced, waved and clapped along heartily to Alicia Keys' Auckland concert, it was obvious she was just as much of a fan as the 10,000 other people at Vector Arena.
She even stamped her feet in an arena-wide drum roll, demanding an encore.
And when it came - in the form of a funked-up version of No One - she raised her arms in salute to the formidable Keys. The original pop princess bowing down to the modern-day queen of soul.
The experience was surreal. There we were, having watched American Idol winner Jordin Sparks open the night with a surprisingly heartfelt and warm performance, when Kylie slipped into the seat in front of us. In the middle of the grandstand, amidst hundreds of regular punters.
But the night belonged to Keys, who opened proceedings with a headbanging, hip-gyrating performance of Go Ahead, before a Supremes-inspired routine to Teenage Love Affair.
Accompanied by a seven-piece band of multi-instrumentalists and three back-up singers - who brought the house down on their own on more than one occasion - Keys stormed her way through the opening set, pulling out a high-octane energy most bands save for their closing finale.
Just when it seemed she may be about to slow things down, coyly asking the crowd, "Is it alright if I play my piano for you tonight?" she launched into a colourful, fiesta-fied remix of Karma, describing the genre as "Spanish Harlem".
Listening to Keys on the radio, she may come across as a restrained soul singer, but live in concert she is something else.
She breaks down heartbroken piano ballads, turning them into upbeat, funk jams; she high-kicks and booty-shakes better than Beyonce; she delivers rambling, rhythmic introductions to her songs, and ends them with sassy, understated punchlines.
Admittedly, it's all a bit rehearsed. But Keys wouldn't be the first musician to script her crowd dialogues.
Besides, Kylie didn't seem to mind. And neither did the other 10,000 fans who screamed, stomped and begged for a second encore - even after a two-hour show.
It's a hard act to follow. Good luck Kylie.
