Olivier Martinez's mother was devastated when she found out her son had split from longtime girlfriend Kylie Minogue because it was like losing a daughter.

Minogue, 38, and Martinez, 41, recently announced they were ending their romance after nearly four years together.

Martinez's mother, Rosemary, says, "It's very sad. Kylie was like a daughter to us. Olivier is upset."

A source tells US Weekly magazine, "They fell out of love. They'd argue whenever they saw each other."

Another source adds, "It was complicated. They had been trying to end it for a long time."

Rosemary insists the split will remain amicable adding, "We wish her all the best, as does Olivier. We will all be staying in touch."

Sorry, but I don't hate Ollie
Sally Morrell
08.02.2007

SALLY Morrell writes: SORRY girls, I just can't hate "love rat" Olivier Martinez for dumping Kylie Minogue.

For a start, just think how hard it was for him to find her to say it was over.

The French actor was in LA, while our Kylie turned out to be in Mexico.

International love rats sure do have their work cut out for them these days.

But at last the call got through and it was adios, au revoir or goodbye.

He was walking out on her. Since you actually have to be in the same room before you can walk out on someone, this isn't strictly true.

In fact, I wonder how often these past months Martinez would physically have been able to walk out on Kylie in any sense.

Kylie has been frantically rehearsing and then performing her 33-date world tour, flying as far from France as Melbourne.

She has a new album and perfume to promote.

Yesterday she opened her own exhibition at the esteemed Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the first to be dedicated to a pop star.

In fact, Kylie's been working so hard she became rundown and had to cancel two shows in England after suffering a respiratory tract infection.

A schedule like that wouldn't leave much time for hand-holding and a romantic dinner with your pet rat, fretting back in Paris, LA or whichever nightclub city Martinez happened to be.

But I think I'm about the only person in Australia who doesn't want to force-feed Ollie a little Ratsak.

Since Martinez split with Kylie, he's gone from adored boyfriend to foul betrayer and from Kylie's "rock" to her "rodent".

Kylie fans are burning up the chatrooms with vitriol.

The London papers have labelled him a "gutless coward", "slimy creep" and "rotten to the core".

And women across Australia are curling their lips at the mere mention of the actor's name.

But really, is there a law against a single man falling out of love?

And it's not as if Martinez didn't follow the rules that really do count.

He seems to have acted with all the timing you'd expect from an actor.

He didn't dump Kylie while she was battling breast cancer last year. In fact, far from it.

"Ollie was there all the time, helping with the practical stuff and being protective," Kylie told Elle magazine in November.

"He didn't hesitate in cancelling work and putting projects on hold so he could be with me. He's the most honourable man I have ever met."

T HAT'S right. He phoned to dump her only when she was well and back at work.

That's class. And he followed the other rules, too. He not only shed a tear, but did it in front of witnesses -- well, in a phone call to them.

We have read reports that he cried on the phone to his parents, Rosemarie and Robert, when he rang them in France to tell them the news.

"I still feel for her, but I'm no longer in love with her," he supposedly told them.

"We have been having a lot of rows. We have outgrown each other."

Rosemarie told reporters she was just as upset: "We are devastated about this news. It is terrible, and we hoped they had a future together."

All so very tidy. Bravo, Olivier. Sure, there's been a bit of a hiccup with all these pictures of him out on the town with other women but hey, what's a guy to do? Live like a monk?

Though you have to wonder if he really could have slept with Penelope Cruz, Salma Hayak, Lost star Michelle Rodriguez, model Sarai Givati and that mystery blonde in the van all in one weekend.

Still, he is French and damn good looking. So Olivier, keep your chin up. You have nothing to say sorry for.

When the paparazzi swarm for yet another picture of you as a love rat, just remember to look your undaunted best.

And say "cheese".

Kylie dodges Olivier questions
07.02.2007

Kylie Minogue was cheered as she arrived at the Victoria and Albert Museum for a private viewing of an exhibition of her dressing room.

Kylie Minogue
Kylie Minogue arrives for "Kylie - The Exhibition" at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London on Tuesday night.

She neatly side-stepped questions about the break-up of her relationship with Olivier Martinez, saying her "friend" had wished her well.

Wearing a purple backless and sleeveless gown with silver earrings, necklace and shoes, she smiled and posed for photographs before signing autographs for overjoyed fans.

Asked how she was feeling, the star told reporters: "I'm here tonight, it's all good."

Kylie spoke of her shock at seeing the exhibition in the V&A for the first time this afternoon.

She joked that it was "a long way from Ramsey Street", where Neighbours was set.

The singer said: "I was actually speechless. It was a very strange feeling. I was so honoured and overwhelmed."

Asked whether the exhibition of her dresses was art, Kylie said: "Art is what you like or what you don't like."

Hundreds of fans waited patiently outside the V&A in the cold for a glimpse of the diminutive star.

They stood alongside several film crews and scores of photographers, many of them perched on stepladders for a better view.

Ahead of Kylie's arrival, a steady stream of taxis pulled up outside the museum carrying invited guests, many of them dressed in extravagant outfits.

The exhibition features 200 objects and highlights include the star's white hooded jump-suit from her 2001 Can't Get You Out of My Head video.

The vintage gold hotpants, which cost just 50p but resurrected Kylie's career, are from her Spinning Around (2000) video.

Kylie - The Exhibition begins in 1988 with the tomboy mechanic overalls she wore as Charlene in Neighbours.

There is also the white dress from the singer's first single with Stock Aitken and Waterman.

The exhibition is brought up to date with her pink Galliano corset and Dolce & Gabbana leopard print catsuit from her Showgirl Homecoming tour.

The singer's recent feather dresses and ostrich feather head-dresses are also on display.

The dressing room is based on Kylie's backstage area at Wembley from her comeback Showgirl Homecoming tour, which followed her recovery from breast cancer.

Her dressing table is cluttered with make-up brushes, good luck cards, and a Kylie Says Relax mug while shelves are lined with teddy bears and shoes.

A silk screen dress, featuring many of her best known images, has been especially designed for the exhibition, for which the Victoria and Albert Museum has been criticised for dumbing down.

Curator Vicky Broackes said: "We wanted to show that it's not just fashion, it's a working wardrobe.

"Her tour costumes have to be robust. They are washed up to 60 times and she has two of every outfit.

"William Baker (her stylist) came on the scene in 1995 and she has become a lot more popular since then.

"She's become more cool, possibly more coherent.

Before that there were forays in lots of different directions."

The free exhibition originated in Kylie's native Australia and tours to the Manchester Art Gallery and Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow.

Kylie - The Exhibition

It features the dungarees she wore as Charlene in the Australian soap Neighbours and the gold hot pants she wore in her Spinning Around video.

Minogue, 38, has said she is "honoured" by the exhibition, which opens to the public on Thursday.

"I was actually speechless. It was a very strange feeling. I was so honoured and overwhelmed," she told reporters after seeing the display for the first time.

Inside the museum, she gave a short speech saying: "I can't believe there are disco balls and glitter at the V&A - but I, for one, think it looks fabulous."

Iconic costumes

Kylie Minogue
A performance history

The museum has had 3,500 advance bookings for the free show and set up an advance booking system because of its popularity.

The exhibition is made up of over 200 items of Minogue memorabilia, which the star herself had previously donated to the Arts Centre in Melbourne.

Black headless mannequins display some of the most iconic costumes the star has worn throughout the her 20 year career.

They range from the simple white dress she wore in the 1987 video for I Should Be So Lucky to the hooded all-in-one suit she wore in the 2001 video for Can't Get You out of My Head.

A collection of costumes from her recent Showgirl: Homecoming tour, which was delayed due to the star being diagnosed with breast cancer, are also featured.

The museum's curator, Vicky Broackes, said she wanted to show how Minogue's wardrobe was not "just fashion - it's a working wardrobe".

"Her tour costumes have to be robust. They are washed up to 60 times and she has two of every outfit," she said.

The exhibition opens to the public on Thursday and runs until 10 June.

  • Discovering Kylie's style secrets
By Fiona Pryor / Entertainment reporter, BBC News
    06.02.2007

An exhibition of Kylie Minogue's stage costumes, awards and accessories has launched at the Victoria and Albert Museum in central London.

    Kylie Minogue
Kylie wore the gold hot pants in her Spinning Around video

It depicts the many twists and turns in her image over the last 20 years - beginning with the dungarees she wore in Neighbours as tomboy mechanic Charlene, before embarking on her pop career.

Her impact has been felt beyond pop music - throughout her two decades of fame she has carved out a reputation as being a trend-setter, which has led to designers falling over themselves to make clothes for her.

The collection features some of the colourful and feather-covered costumes from her recent Showgirl: Homecoming tour - delayed after the 38-year-old was diagnosed with breast cancer.

One costume, from her Fever tour, is mounted on a mannequin which towers above the exhibition hall, revealing the dress and its huge layered skirt. On stage it was big enough to hide 12 dancers beneath it.

Framed pictures of Minogue adorn the walls, documenting her career as a style icon who constantly reinvents herself.

Above the portraits is a quote from the singer: "Were it not for my parents, I'm sure this collection would be the size of a suitcase, rather than an exhibition space."

    Elaborate costumes

Assistant curator Margot Anderson says: "It's really interesting to go through the costumes and see how she has evolved from the very early days.

"You get a really good sense of what a strong career Kylie's had, and her constant renewal and ability to create new, fresh, interesting things."

The focal point of the whole collection is a replica of Minogue's dressing room at Wembley, during her Showgirl tour of just a month ago.

    Kylie Minogue and Justin Timberlake
Kylie made her own alternations to the dress she wore at the 2003 Brits

A huge rail of elaborate costumes is hung up, while masks and head gear with a wardrobe next to it with pouring out of its drawers.

No detail has gone untouched, as even a split bottle of nail polish on the dressing table can be seen and a pair of her slippers underneath the dressing table.

"We bought it in lock, stock and barrel - fan mail, a note from Dannii Minogue on the mirror," explains V&A performing arts exhibitions head Vicky Broackes.

"Its all in there and I think that's where you get very close to Kylie," she added.

    Designers' thoughts

The exhibition also features the thoughts of the designers who have worked with Minogue over the years.

"I spent many sleepless nights sewing crystals onto Kylie's outfits. There never seemed to be enough sparkle on these dainty clothes," said Julien Macdonald.

In the exhibition, he recalls an evening when the singer took his fashion sense into her own hands.

She performed with Justin Timberlake at the 2003 Brits ceremony, but needed a new outfit at the last minute.

Macdonald only had one dress with him - a black outfit with a neckline made up of crystal.

But when he saw her performance on television, she had slashed the dress to the top of her thigh, making it into a short mini dress.

"That night my heart stopped. Kylie had cut the dress. She did look fantastic though, and it made all the front pages, so all was forgiven."

The exhibition runs from 8 February to 10 June at the Victoria and Albert Museum, South Kensington, London.

Olivier Martinez Selling Kylie Minogue’s Yacht

Martinez is selling this boat he bought for Kylie | Picture: kya.pytalhost.net

Los Angeles (eCanadaNow) - Olivier Martinez is selling a boat he bought for Kylie Minogue.

The French actor bought the 50ft vintage yacht, called White Wings, for then girlfriend Kylie after she fell in love with it in 2004.

And he is set to make a big profit now that they are no longer together. Three years ago he paid £180,000 for the love token, and is now hoping to sell it for £230,000.

A source told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: "Olivier is facing up to looking after himself without Kylie.

"He put the boat on the market at the end of last year when he realised he wouldn’t be sharing any more romantic holiday with her on the Mediterranean."

Olivier has been criticised for his decision to sell the boat instead of giving it to Kylie, as it played a big part in helping her through her breast cancer battle.

The source added: "Kylie loved the boat and going for cruises on it and it really brightened her mood when she was ill.

"Not many people can make a profit after owning a boat for a couple of years."

    Scissor Sister sing Kylie's praise
    06.02.2007

    Scissor Sisters
    Scissor Sisters | Picture: kya.pytalhost.net

It is no secret that Kylie Minogue is an admirer of the Scissor Sisters, and they of her.

The friendship between the American band and Minogue, especially that of members Jake Shears and Babydaddy (aka Scott Hoffman), is rock solid.

The pair teamed up with Minogue last year and co-wrote several songs, including White Diamond which is expected to feature on her next album.

But, while Minogue is in the UK following her recent split from actor Olivier Martinez, the glam-rock outfit are playing to thousands in her homeland.

The timing to meet up in Australia was not right, but Scissor Sisters drummer Paddy Boom is certain the band will catch up with Minogue soon and said the support she had shown them in the past would be reciprocated.

"She has been a friend of the band for a while ... We have had a lot of close contact with her and she is a sweetheart," said Boom, 38, who was born Patrick Seacor.

"I know that Jake and Babydaddy get on with her really well and they have written some really good music with her.

"So, obviously, there is some chemistry there. She's very nice, kind and has been a big support of the band and we support her too."

The Scissor Sisters, who are big on the gay club scene in New York, are in Australia conducting an east coast tour, which began on February 1 in Newcastle.

They have played in Brisbane and Sydney and are due to perform in Adelaide and Melbourne before returning to the US.

With hits including Take Your Mamma, Comfortably Numb, I Don't Feel Like Dancin' and She's My Man becoming nightclub anthems around the world, Boom says the bands success was not expected.

"When I initially heard the music I knew there was something good about it, but you never expect this," he said.

"I was just happy to get a record deal when everything started happening. I basically put 110 per cent into it (music) for about 15 years prior to this band. So it's been great."

The band was created by frontman Shears and Babydaddy in 2000, and become a five-piece extravaganza in 2001 when Boom, Ana Matronic and Del Marquis joined.

While it is inevitable that five people will butt heads about creative decisions at some point, Boom says that is what makes the Scissor Sisters unique.

"The interesting thing about the band is that there are differences in what we are interested in as people, but collectively there is a common thread that somehow is unique in this day and age," he said. "With a band you figure out very quickly if you are going to like it or not.

"Our music is kind of elusive and very random and people are obviously responding."

I'll never have children of my own, fears Kylie

    Kylie Minogue
    Solo again: Kylie dreams of
    starting a family

Kylie Minogue has told friends that she fears parting from Olivier Martinez has shattered her prospects of having children.

The 38-year-old singer believes she will be too old to conceive if she begins a new relationship.

Chemotherapy during her nine-month fight against breast cancer did not help her chances of becoming pregnant naturally.

She is said to have been left distraught after two failed attempts at IVF and last year she had slivers of her ovaries taken out and frozen, to be re-implanted over the next few years in the hope that they will start releasing eggs.

"To say that her biological clock is ticking sounds so cliched - but sadly it’s true," said a source close to the Australian star.

"She does, of course, have other options - adoption or surrogacy for instance - but without a long-term partner by her side, these possibilities are incredibly daunting.

"Quite simply, Kylie was convinced that Olivier was 'the One' because he’d stood by her throughout her cancer ordeal.

"Rumours that he cheated on her are really hurtful but for Kylie, the thought that she might never have kids is the most upsetting thing of all."

It is three days since the couple announced their break-up.

Since then Martinez, 41, who is in Los Angeles, has already been linked to three different women.

DAVID WALLIAMS has offered KYLIE MINOGUE a shoulder to cry on after her split from OLIVIER MARTINEZ.

The Little Britain funnyman has declared his support for Kylie after the pair became close pals in the past year.

And David has come out in her defence with a few choice words.

    Olivier Martinez, Michelle Rodriguez

He said: "She’s gorgeous and I hope she’s doing OK. I don’t know what went wrong with Olivier but I do know she deserves happiness and loyalty. She’s got my number if she wants to get together for a laugh."

Back in 2003, Bizarre launched the RSPCK - The Royal Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty to Kylie.

The campaign had one aim: To stop cruel attacks on the pint-sized singer by heartless beasts after model JAMES GOODING broke her heart. Now the RSPCK is back, with David as its new patron.

French poser Olivier is risking his acting career by messing with the most popular woman in showbiz.

Other powerful members of the RSPCK include SIR ELTON JOHN, PET SHOP BOYS and BONO - who once said he would lay rose petals in front of Kylie for her to walk on.

David spoke after opening the Mardi Gras gay festival in Sydney, Australia, with comedy partner MATT LUCAS. They starred as characters Emily Howard and Daffyd.

Kylie, on a break in Mexico following her successful battle with breast cancer, was last night nursing a broken heart after announcing the split from long-term partner Olivier.

Only days after their split, Olivier was spotted sharing a tender hug and kiss with actress PENELOPE CRUZ at a Los Angeles hotel.

    Kylie Minogue
It's back.. The Royal Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty to Kylie

He saw the actress and immediately went over to tell her how good she was looking.

Olivier has been linked to Lost star MICHELLE RODRIGUEZ and Israeli model SARAI GIVATI in recent months.

He was also pictured with another mystery brunette on Friday.

The pictures of him with younger women must have been agonising for Kylie to look at.

Now there will be a huge queue of blokes eager to be her other half.

Swordsman Walliams has even thrown his hat in the ring. He would certainly be a popular choice with her gay following. And he would definitely bring a smile to her face.

    SPEN PALS
12 hours after split .. Kylie's grinning ex drapes arms over Penelope Cruz
Exclusive by Fiona Cummins, Showbiz Reporter, and Tom Bryant
    05.02.2007

    Kylie Minogue, Olivier Martinez

KYLIE Minogue's ex Olivier Martinez wasted no time turning his charm on another showbiz beauty - this time Hollywood star Penelope Cruz.

In pictures that will break Kylie's heart, he tenderly embraced the stunning actress after meeting her at the luxurious Chateau Marmont hotel in Los Angeles.

Kylie's friends and family reacted with horror as Martinez, 41, openly flaunted his single status - just 12 hours after their break-up was officially announced. An insider said: "Does he really have to rub Kylie's nose in it? He is being so brazen about it all. This will devastate her."

Showing no hint of upset at the end of his four-year relationship, Martinez was all smiles as he took Penelope, 32, into his arms.

The couple hugged and kissed after bumping into each other on Saturday at the West Hollywood hotel, one of the hunky French actor's favourite haunts.

In another twist of the knife, the Chateau Marmont is where he first met and fell for Kylie. The friend went on: "Kylie is a very sensitive woman who loved him with all her heart but he looks like he doesn't have a care in the world.

He clearly couldn't give a toss about her feelings."

    Penelope Cruz

Volver star Penelope, who was at the hotel for lunch with three female friends, gave a shriek of delight when she spotted Martinez. A fellow diner said: "He approached Penelope seconds after she had sat down.

"Now he is officially single, perhaps there could be more to it.

He certainly appears relaxed and seems to have a bit of a glint in his eye."

Last night, it was revealed Kylie knew it was was over when Martinez snubbed her - to keep a date with an elephant.

Instead of flying to her side the thickskinned love rat stopped off in Jaipur, India, to take part in an elephant polo match.

Heartbroken Kylie, 38, had suspected something was wrong a few days earlier when he failed to join her in Australia for the start of her homecoming tour.

She wept after he missed her comeback concert in Sydney on November 11 - her first since she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

And she told her family: "I know it's over but I can't think about it until my tour has ended."

A pal revealed: "That was the moment of truth for her. It wasn't the rumours of other women, although that hurt her deeply.

"It was the realisation that Olivier just wasn't committed to their relationship. He was happy to muck around on an elephant but he wasn't prepared to join her for the most important concert of her life."

The friend went on: "It became obvious the relationship was over, but nothing was ever said out loud. Kylie just kept hoping he'd turn up.

"He only needed to jump on a plane - but he didn't."

Significantly, Kylie's 85-year-old gran Millie managed to make it to her concerts in Melbourne. The friend said: "That was the clincher.

"Millie climbed stairs and battled crowds to be there and when Kylie thanked her backstage, she said, 'I wouldn't miss this because I love you'. That is the moment when Kylie knew, without doubt, she and Olivier were finished. He just couldn't be bothered."

Meanwhile, Kylie's family are said to be secretly relieved over the break-up. Friends say they were increasingly concerned by Martinez's recent "ungallant" behaviour.

During their relationship, he was linked to Angelina Jolie, Lost star Michelle Rodriguez, actress Salma Hayek and, most recently, Israeli model Sarai Givati.

Last night, Sarai's mum, Mrs Edna Givati, denied the pair were an item. She insisted: "They are not together and never were."

    05.02.2007

    Kylie Minogue, Olivier Martinez
