Kylie MinoguePOP princess Kylie Minogue is to return to Tyneside after a six-year absence, we can reveal today.
The singer will perform two shows at Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena in July, with tickets for both gigs going on sale on Saturday.
It will be Kylie’s first concerts in the region since her acclaimed Fever tour in 2002 - which still holds the record for the fastest-selling show at the venue.
Kylie also holds the record for the biggest audience for a fully-seated gig at the Arena - 10,123 fans - and demand for her 2008 shows looks set to be just as huge.
Tickets for the KylieX2008 shows, which are on sale from 9am Saturday, will initially only be available via telephone and internet booking lines - no tickets will be on sale at the Arena itself.
The singer herself has promised the gigs, on July 20 and 21, will be "fresh, exhilarating and innovative".
"I am putting together a show that is going to be a new and exciting experience for both the audience and myself," she said.
"The eclectic mix of sounds on new album X is affording me an opportunity to explore and develop a new live show that will be fresh, exhilarating and innovative.
"After two celebratory tours, X will be a look to the future, but will definitely include favourites alongside the new.
"I can’t wait to share it with you next year! See you soon."
The Newcastle dates mark something of a coup for the Arena, with Kylie only playing four other British cities - Glasgow, Manchester, Belfast and London. Tickets for those shows went on sale last week, and bosses at the Metro Radio Arena have been working hard since to secure her Tyneside dates.
"Kylie is the world’s leading female singer, and last time she was here she went down a storm," said an Arena spokesman.
"When the tour was announced, we did all we could to get her back here.
"She has a huge and loyal following in the North East, and we’re over the moon she has agreed to now come back to Newcastle.
"If her new show is anything like the concerts she staged last time, it will be a night to remember."
Kylie is currently riding high in the charts with X, her first album of new material since having surgery for breast cancer after being diagnosed with the disease in 2005.

In October this year, the Aussie songstress received the Music Industry Trust’s Award in recognition of her 20-year-career.
She was hailed as "an icon of pop and style" who has continued to "reinvent, experiment and inspire".
The ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel featured video messages of celebrities paying tribute to Minogue, including Wallsend-born Sting, who told her: "I have a great deal of respect for you as an artist and, like most men on the planet, I’m certainly not immune to your iconic beauty - but more than this, you have become a symbol of courage and of grace under pressure."
Until Kylie played the Arena in 2002, it had been 11 years since she had performed live on Tyneside.
Back then it was for the Let’s Get To It tour, when she played to 4,500 fans at Whitley Bay Ice Rink.
She had also played the venue the previous year as one of just three shows nationwide.
She first ventured here, though in 1989, to open the Warner Bros cinema at Manors in Newcastle.
It coincided with the North East premiere of her debut big screen offering, The Delinquents.
The diminutive pop princess’s popularity has never been greater, even when she was winning awards galore as mechanic Charlene in Neighbours, the soap that made her an international star. Just like Madonna, she is something of a pop chameleon, changing her image as many times as she’s had hit records.
From the toothy girl-next-door image of 1988’s I Should Be So Lucky and the 1989 Enjoy Yourself album to the sultry temptress of Can’t Get You Out Of My Head, Kylie has always been an artist who has been adored.
She appeals to women just as much as men, to gays just as much as straights, and still comes across as a genuine lass, unaffected by the huge success, as her recent documentary, White Diamond, showed.
She will be seen on BBC One on Christmas Day for the festive edition of Dr Who.
Kylie will be stepping back in time as she joins Time Lord David Tennant on board The Titanic.
At the end of the last series, viewers witnessed the Titanic crash through the Tardis walls in spectacular style, and the Christmas Special’s non-stop action continues from that moment.
Kylie, who plays Astrid, a waitress on the Titanic, said: "It is an incredible thrill to be joining David and the entire Dr Who production for this year’s Christmas special. Dr Who enjoys a unique history and it is going to be very exciting to be a part of that."

Everybody needs good Neighbours: The characters of Kylie Minogue
and Jason Donovan wed on the set of NeighboursAustralian singers Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan are to be reunited on TV for the final of talent show The X Factor.
The former couple, who rose to fame playing lovers Charlene and Scott on the soap Neighbours, will sing with the contestants on this weekend’s programme on ITV1.
An Eighties institution, the pair had matching blonde locks and recorded a hit single together - Especially For You - before going their separate ways. They have rarely been seen together in recent years, although Donovan did film a clip for Minogue’s recent TV special.
Minogue will duet with Scottish 18-year-old Leon Jackson, who is mentored by her sister, X Factor judge Dannii. It will be Jackson’s second superstar encounter in a fortnight. Last week Michael Buble invited him on stage to sing the hit Home to a packed audience at Wembley.
Donovan is to sing with the cheesy brother-sister duo Same Difference. The saccharine Sean and Sarah Smith made judge Simon Cowell cringe when he first met them, but after being assigned to mentor the pair the music mogul became their biggest champion.
Opera singer Rhydian Roberts, also coached by Minogue, misses out on dueting with a soap-star-turned singer but, a proud Welsh man, will be happy to hear he has been paired with Welsh mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins.
Dannii Minogue will be hoping her pop star sister will help her act win the show. New to the programme, the former singer has been consistently criticised by long-time judge Louis Walsh. The music manager has pointed out her lack of hit singles and questioned her judgement while the cameras rolled.
But Minogue has had the last laugh. She has two contestants competing in the final while Walsh’s final act, Nikki Evans, was voted off the show last week.
Judge Sharon Osbourne has faired even worse. One of her contestants, Emily Nakanda, had to withdraw from the show after she was caught on video assaulting another a girl. Another of her acts was removed on the first week and her final contestant only made it to week five.
Minogue’s acts will be competing against Cowell’s Same Difference but according to bookmakers the music mogul’s duo is unlikely to win. William Hill has Roberts as the favourite, with Jackson a close second.

The diminutive star put on a sizzling performance in front of former U.S. Vice President Al Gore and the United Nations climate panel at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in the Oslo Spektrum.
Kylie, 39, joined other performers, including Alicia Keys, Annie Lennox and U.S. country singer Melissa Etheridge at the annual concert in the Norwegian capital, which dipped below freezing temperature on Tuesday.

'WHITE DIAMOND' IN THE SHOPS!

Kylie's up close and personal documentary film 'White Diamond' is released today on a special 2-DVD set featuring the full 'Showgirl Homecoming' show!
The two hour film, directed by William Baker, documents Kylie and her team as they prepare for her mammoth 'Showgirl Homecoming Tour' which wowed audiences in Australia and the UK when it took to the road in November 2006.
Speaking about 'White Diamond', Kylie said: "It's a good way to thank the fans for their support and to see where all their good wishes went".
The 'White Diamond' DVD features the full-length director's cut version of the film along with 'Showgirl Homecoming' filmed in Melbourne on December 11th last year.
Bonus features include re-edits of performances from the original Showgirl Tour live from Earls Court in 2005, as well as a ROM section featuring links, screensavers, wallpaper and a gallery.

Kylie For Mardi Gras?

Kylie MinogueOver the weekend Kylie set Austrian TV alight with a sexy live performance of 2 Hearts. She was special guest on a show called Wetten Dass, which means Bet That. Other guests included Jerry Seinfeld and Renee Zellweger, so she was in fine company.
Kylie turned up the heat as she writhed all over a grand piano, much like she did in the video, the studio audience lapped it up. Wetten Dass is the most successful talk show in Europe - when it screens it can easily take 50% of the TV audience that evening. Apparently more than four million people watched Kylie’s episode.
Meanwhile the rumours are circulating about Kylie coming down under for Mardi Gras Party next year. Last week Sydney Confidential published a rumour piece about her currently being in talks with Mardi Gras and there are a couple of tidbits floating about in cyberspace that hint at her being one of the headliners, but nothing concrete as yet.
Could we be looking at a Kylie and Dannii show next year? Stay tuned to Same Same for updates.

Kylie Minogue live at 'Wetten dass...?'Australian pop queen Kylie Minogue wowed her vast German-speaking TV audience with a sexy rendition of her new single, 2 Hearts, on an Austrian-filmed Christmas special of the German show Wetten, Dass ...? (Wanna Bet That ...?) Sofa For Hollywood Glamour at the weekend.
Minogue shared star billing on Thomas Gottschalk's spectacular with Oscar-winning actors Nicolas Cage and Renee Zellweger and comic genius Jerry Seinfeld. Her hit track 2 Hearts is off her 10th studio album, X, which went on sale two weeks ago. X is Minogue's first commercial album since she was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2005.
The album features 13 new tracks and was recorded in London, Stockholm and Ibiza.
Minogue is to promote X with a European tour, to be called KYLIEX2008. Tickets for the British segment of eight shows were sold out within 30 minutes of opening. Minogue's previous TV appearance was a month ago on The Kylie Show, broadcast by British channel ITV1. The program featured highly stylised set-piece song performances from Minogue as well as sketches showing her backstage, most notably ones featuring Jason Donovan failing to recognise Minogue, and a catfight sequence with her sister, Dannii Minogue. The show secured strong viewing figures of 4.8 million. In the Wetten, Dass ...? show, Zellweger and Seinfeld dressed as bumble bees to put on a double act, Bee Movie. Wetten, Dass ...? is the most successful television show in Europe.
The shows are broadcast live six to seven times a year from different cities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and can easily attract 50 per cent and more of all German-speaking viewers on that evening.
There is a common saying in the entertainment industry, "When you want to conquer the German-speaking market on one night, you have to appear on Wetten, Dass ...?

Kicking up her heels in a live performance on European television, Minogue had no qualms showing off her famous figure.
Wearing fishnet stockings, black leather gloves and stiletto-heeled boots, Minogue dazzled viewers of the popular Wetten Dass program as she cavorted atop a piano.
Those impressed with Minogue's vocal and athletic talents included comedian Jerry Seinfeld and actress Renee Zellweger, who were also guests on the live show, broadcast across Europe from Austria.
Minogue, who turns 40 next year, also recently visited the new sex shop of lingerie designer Kiki De Montparnasse in Chelsea, splurging on silk underwear.
She discovered Kiki's collection when she posed for a series of saucy photographs to publicise her latest album X.
Her first since her much-publicised battle with breast cancer - X soared to No. 1 on the Australian album charts.
Minogue is still regarded as the benchmark for celebrities in terms of fashion and style.
A survey by UKTV Style's The Clothes Show named Kylie the top style icon among celebrities.

Kylie will be stepping back in time this festive season, as she joins Time Lord David Tennant for a spectacular Doctor Who Christmas Special set aboard The Titanic, to be shown Christmas Day at 6.50 pm on BBC One!
At the end of the last series, viewers witnessed the The Titanic crash through the Tardis walls in spectacular style, and the Christmas Special's non-stop action continues from that moment.
Kylie, who plays Astrid, a waitress on the The Titanic, says: "It is an incredible thrill to be joining David and the entire Dr Who production for this year's Christmas special. Dr Who enjoys a unique history and it is going to be very exciting to be a part of that."
Two of Britain's best-loved sitcom actors, Geoffrey Palmer and Clive Swift, also feature in this Christmas episode. Palmer, perhaps most famous for his roles in the long-running BBC series Butterflies and As Time Goes By, plays the role of Captain of The Titanic.

Besser gesagt, gegen den Besitzer des Strip-Clubs mit diesem Namen. Denn der hat unerlaubt mit Kylie im nassen und durchsichtigen T-Shirt für seinen Schuppen geworben.
Der Strip-Club ist im neuseeländischen Wellington zu finden. Und an dessen Eingang konnte man vor kurzem noch ein großes Bild von Kylie Minogue im nassen Shirt bewundern.
Das soll Kylie sein?
Kylies Anwälte haben nun eine Unterlassungsklage gegen den Strip-Club erwirkt, berichtet die britische Zeitung "The Sun". Denn hier sei der Eindruck erweckt worden, die Sängerin "billige, was im Club vor sich geht", lautet die Begründung. Der Besitzer ist kooperativ, stellt sich jedoch offenbar dumm: Er habe gar nicht gewusst, dass es sich bei der Halbnackten auf dem Bild um Kylie handelt. Das Foto habe er im Internet gefunden. Und er fügt scheinheilig hinzu: "Warum sollte ein nettes Mädel wie Kylie in einem nassen Top herumlaufen?".

Ben Lee Makes Mixtape With Kylie Minogue

Ben LeeBen Lee only recently released his latest album 'Ripe,' but he already has another record in the works, one which will feature the talents of Aussie pop princess Kylie Minogue.
"There's an album that I've done, that I'll probably [release] next year, called 'A Mixtape From Ben Lee,'" the Aussie troubadour tells Spinner. "It's about 15 new songs and they're each sung by a different person. The Kylie one is interesting because it's the only song I co-wrote on the album, and I co-wrote it with my niece who was 11 at the time."
Lee who says he's a "pretty cool" uncle, worked with his niece Jacinta and came up with the lyrics to the song, called 'Rain.' "It's all about the rain outside and your mum making you clean up your room and Kylie sings that song," Lee says. "She does an amazing job." Lee confirms his niece has indeed heard the number. At first, Jacinta was very impressed. "She was when I gave it to her, but now I think she's embarrassed," he recounts. "I gave it to her for her birthday. I was like, 'Hey! This is the new Kylie song,' and she was like 'OMG!'"
Lee was able to recruit Kylie for the effort as the two Aussie's previously covered Duran Duran's 'The Reflex' once upon a time. The 'Rain' collaboration happened via FedEx but plenty of other guest artists on 'Mixtape' met Lee in the studio, including Tim Wheeler from Ash, E from the Eels, Ian Ball from Gomez and actress/singer Zooey Deschanel.
Those who can't wait for the release of the impending album should know Lee is throwing caution to the wind with his set list these days, and one of his 'Mixtape' numbers just might creep in. "The set now is kind of interesting, because me and my collaborator, who's playing with me, we know about 60 songs," he says. "We're not really having a set list. Obviously I have to play a bunch of new songs and I have to play 'Catch My Disease.' Aside from that, all bets are off."

Dannii For Mardi Gras Party

Dannii MinogueRumour has it that Dannii Minogue will be one of the party headliners for Mardi Gras’ 30th anniversary. Minogue will be back in the country for season two of Australia’s Got Talent and word on the street is that she’ll be paying the gays a visit too. If true, this will be Dannii’s third Mardi Gras performance.
It’s all happening for Dannii this year - she seems to have really found her niche. Her music career is going strong - her new single Touch Me Like That has just topped the club charts, making it her thirteenth consecutive club chart number one. She also just released her album Club Disco last month.
Dannii’s also settling into the role of talent show judge - in addition to Australia’s Got Talent, she’s also appearing as a judge and mentor in the fourth series of UK’s The X Factor, alongside Simon Cowell, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh.
When interviewed recently by the UK’s Sunday Mirror, she said that she was relieved to have found the regular TV gig. "I’ve finally been accepted as me" It’s a fantastic opportunity, for once, not to be compared with Kylie. At last, I’ve found my own slot."
