Kylie magic puts spectacle in the shade (Review From The Adelaide Advertiser)
Danielle O'donohue, music writer
01.12.2006
AUSTRALIAN pop princess Kylie Minogue enjoyed a triumphant return to Adelaide less than two years after announcing she had breast cancer.
Her concert at the Entertainment Centre was a lavish Las Vegas style spectacle with more costume changes than a Broadway show.
But then, when you've got designers the calibre of Karl Lagerfeld, Dolce and Gabbana and John Galliano lining up to dress you, why not look that fabulous.
But even the stunning costumes and multi-million dollar stage production were completely over-shadowed by the presence of the tiny pop star.
Singing hits that stretched back as far as Locomotion, Kylie clearly relished being onstage again.
The postponed tour was originally scheduled for May last year and Kylie acknowledged the patience of the crowd saying, "Those that kept your tickets, this is a question I like to ask each night - where did you keep them?," before adding, "The important thing is you kept them and I thank you so much."
The show began with the singer emerging from under the stage wearing a dazzling pink diamond encrusted leotard and a massive pink feathered head-dress.
Giving the sold out audience her trademark cheeky smile and a small wave she launched into Better the Devil You Know and the hits didn't stop.
New song White Diamond, written with the Scissor Sisters, was a seductive dance number. Then a group of disco themed acrobatic court jesters surrounded the singer for a medley that included Shocked, What Do I Have To Do and Spinning Around and a gym setting complete with a group of buff men exercising had Kylie in a leopard print catsuit and diamond encrusted red boxing gloves to sing Slow.
Kids, originally recorded as a pop duet with Robbie Williams, closed the first half as a full blown rock number.
The second half began with the singer sitting on a mirror ball moon hanging over the stage to sing Somewhere Over the Rainbow then she donned a Moulin Rouge inspired black feathered outfit to sing a smoky, jazz version of Locomotion, crowd favourite I Should Be So Lucky and Hand On Your Heart to close the set proper.
Australia's most successful musical export then returned for the encore to do a futuristic version of Can't Get You Out of My Head.
Her second encore signalled her eighth costume change for the night, the giant screen behind her turning into a karaoke machine so the audience could join in on a particularly moving Especially For You.
At the end the singer seemed genuinely moved by the noisy ovation that preceeded last song Love at First Sight.
The finale was an impromptu dance off between Kylie's cast.
It was great to see our Showgirl back home.

SHOWGIRL HOMECOMING TO BE BROADCAST ON C4 AND E4!
30.11.2006
Channel 4 and E4 have secured exclusive UK rights to broadcast Kylie's Showgirl Homecoming Tour. This exclusive two hour spectacular entitled 'Kylie Showgirl Homecoming Tour', features Kylie's triumphant return to the stage following her recent illness. It will be broadcast on Channel 4 in January 2007, with an additional transmission on E4.
Filmed exclusively for C4 and E4 in Melbourne (Kylie's hometown) in December 2006, this new Greatest Hits show features a brand new set list compared to 2005's Showgirl tour. In addition to Kylie classics such as 'The Loco-motion', 'Better The Devil You Know' and 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head' the show also features 'Slow', 'Light Years' and a mash up of Kylie's 'Burning Up' with Madonna's 'Vogue' (just the rap), as well as numerous other hits, in this glittering concert.
C4 previously showed the 2005 Showgirl concert exclusively for UK viewers. Bill Lord and Terry Blamey are executive producers of 'Kylie Showgirl Homecoming Tour' with Marcus Viner as producer and William Baker as director.
"Kylie's Showgirl Tour concert was one of our music highlights in 2005, and so we are delighted that Kylie's spectacular return to the stage will again be broadcast on C4, bringing this emotional journey to a close," says Jules Oldroyd, Head of Scheduling, T4 and Music at C4.

Just a low-key arrival by Kylie
29.11.2006
Just a face in the crowd. Pop queen Kylie Minogue
arrives in Adelaide yesterday without fuss or fanfare.POP princess Kylie Minogue is the biggest name in Australian music. But yesterday she was just another face in the crowd at Adelaide Airport when she arrived for her long-awaited Showgirl Homecoming tour.
While about 8000 will attend Kylie's concerts here tonight and tomorrow night, there was a relatively small crowd waiting when she arrived from Sydney just after 4pm.
Kylie smiled for the fans, hugged admirer Danielle Manhire, from Greenwith, and signed an autograph for Carley Manhire. Postponed since early last year when the singer was diagnosed with breast cancer, The Showgirl Homecoming tour has been winning rave reviews.
Tickets are sold out for both Entertainment Centre shows but once the stage is set up today there may be a small release of tickets.
Adelaide's hot summer of concerts is set to continue with Evanescence and Tenacious D swinging through town for shows early next year.

Nelly FurtadoKYLIE MINOGUE could make her chart comeback by recording a track with NELLY FURTADO.

"I can relate to her because she has this crazy work ethic like me, and I love the fact she went back and followed up her tour."

Nelly Furtado & Kylie Minogue planen ein Duett
29.11.2006
Showgirls ...
Im Stil von ´Cant Get You out Of My Head´.

Revealed: the most popular internet videos
By Matthew Moore
28.11.2006
Kylie Minogue - Agent Provocateur | Picture: kya.pytalhost.netFootage of a portly teenage boy pretending to wield a Star Wars light sabre is the most popular internet video in history, according to new figures.
The two-minute clip of Ghyslain Raza swinging a metal pole - apparently a golf ball retriever - has been viewed a staggering 900 million times.
Raza - now known as "Star Wars Kid" - recorded the video at his high school in Canada in 2003. His school mates posted it on the internet, earning Raza instant fame among users of video websites. The original clip has been re-edited many times. Some versions give him a real light sabre and set his moves to the Star Wars theme tune.
Viral videos - so-called because of the speed with which they spread through cyberspace via email, message boards and word of mouth - are the latest craze to sweep the internet, fuelling the success of self-broadcasting websites like Youtube, which was recently bought by Google for $1.65 billion.
The figures were collated by viral marketing company The Viral Factory, which logged the most watched online videos according to number of individual page impressions.
The second most popular clip also features an unknown teenager - 19-year-old Gary Bolsma, known as Numa Numa. He filmed himself lip-synching to a Romanian pop song, a video that has now been viewed 700 million times.
Third was the X-rated video One Night In Paris, featuring socialite Paris Hilton, with 400 million online views.
Kylie Minogue's saucy viral advertisement for lingerie firm Agent Provocateur has been viewed 360 million times and made it into fourth place.
Fifth was The Exploding Whale, a television news clip from 1970s which shows a dead whale being blown it up with dynamite after being washed up on a beach in Oregon. The clip - which was long though to be a hoax - has been viewed 350 million times.

Kylie can't resist Jason quip
28.11.2006
Kylie has made a quip about Jason Donovan's celebrity statusSLIPPING out for dinner on a Monday night in Sydney is never quite as mundane as it sounds when you're pop royalty like Kylie Minogue.
But for diners at Potts Point nosh spot Fratelli's, the entertainment - including a passing parade of showbiz and social stars - came with the price of a meal last night when Australia's homecoming queen stepped out on the town.
With actor brothers Joel and Nash Edgerton as her dashing dinner companions - and feted by other restaurant guests including Paul Keating and his society daughter Kathryn - Minogue drew the spotlight without even trying.
And conversation was just as star-studded with her former Neighbours co-star and ex-boyfriend Jason Donovan scoring a special mention from Minogue, who gasped about his involvement in the UK reality TV series I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here - or as she quipped: "I'm a celebrity, make me famous again.''
Minogue, who performed her last Sydney concert on Sunday night, also swapped anecdotes with Joel Edgerton about her Moulin Rouge director friend Baz Luhrmann.
