KYLIE DAZZLES ON OPENING NIGHT OF 'SHOWGIRL'!

Kylie kicked of her greatest hits tour in true showgirl style, arriving on stage to the unmistakable intro of the anthemic 'Better The Devil You Know', dressed in a glittering diamond encrusted couture corset adorned in feathers , much to the delight of 10,000 screaming fans at Glasgow's SECC last night.
During the two hour show Kylie 'stepped back in time' to perform some of the biggest hits of her incredible 18-year career, accompanied by a 7-piece band and 12 dancers. And with six-themed sections and costume changes galore, the audience were in for a night to remember!
Fans lapped up early classics like 'Shocked', 'What Do I Have To Do' and 'Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi' and more recent hits like 'On A Night Like This' 'Spinning Around', 'I Believe In You' and the brand new single 'Giving You Up'.
As in all her live tours Kylie surprised fans with new takes on some of her classic songs as well as reviving some hiddem gems! The electro-pop smash 'Come Into My World' became a beautiful ballad that Kylie sang perched aloft a crescent moon, while the flamenco influenced 'Please Stay' was transformed into a full blooded Spanish fiesta complete with toreros!
Kylie also surprised everyone with a poignant take on the Wizard Of Oz classic 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' which showcased her vocal strength to full extent.
'Showgirl' included several songs that Kylie has never performed before on tour including 'Impossible Princess' favourite 'Dreams', her collaboration with the Pet Shop Boys 'In Denial', and the Jason Donovan duet 'Especially for You' which became a mass singalong thanks to karaoke style lyrics on the big stage screen!
Bringing the show to a close Kylie took the audience to the very beginning with three consecutive number one hits: a hi-energy take on 'Hand In Your Heart', a cabaret version of 'Locomotion' and an unadulterated pop mix of the song that launched her international singing career, 'I Should Be So Lucky'.
And for the encore she couldn't have left the stage without including a rendition of the biggest hit of her career, 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head'.
After two hours of non-stop hits, state-of-the-art staging, innovative choreography and stunning costumes, the 10,000 screaming fans gave the showgirl their resounding seal of approval with rapturous applause that echoed into the streets of Glasgow!

Kylie's sold out world tour opens this Saturday, March 19, in Glasgow, playing a staggering 23 nights at only 4 different venues in the UK. This includes 7 nights at Londons Earls Court Arena, where the UK leg of the tour ends on May 7.
The tour, the biggest and most ambitious of Kylie's career, also plays Europe, Australia and the Far East, before ending with a headline appearance at the Glastonbury Festival on June 26.
The show represents Kylie's finest moments in music, performance and style and is an homage to the showgirl, one of the most exotic, decadent and sensual icons of our times. Inspiration has come from the Moulin Rouge to the Folies Bergere, from the Doris Girls of the Paris Lido to the entertainment palaces of Las Vegas, from the underground burlesque bars of Soho to the Busby Berkeley musicals of the thirties.
Kylie's show pays tribute to the showgirl in all her forms and guises. It also amalgamates the strengths of Kylies past three major tours the intimacy of 'Intimate and Live', the celebratory aspects of 'On A Night Like This' and the technological futurism of 'Fever'.
Kylie recently admitted that the scale of this tour came home to her when she realised the amount of trucks it would take to get the show from one city/country to the next - this show needs 15 trucks to ferry it around, including half of a truck devoted solely to feathers!
The show is so huge that it needs well over 100 people to get it on the road. The million pound, art deco inspired stage is believed to be the biggest ever built for an arena tour and features 5 hydraulic lifts within its construction. Like Kylie's 2002 Fever tour, 'Showgirl' pushes the technological boundaries, using innovative technology in video, lighting and sound. At each venue the trucks will start unloading at 7am to have the show ready for 9pm.
Onstage with Kylie will be 7 band members and 12 dancers.
Kylie said this week; "This is not only a celebration of pop songs, and of my career, but also of a long term relationship with my audience. This is my way of saying 'thank you' and of sharing some of the most important moments of my journey so far. A trip down memory lane. It's been so much fun putting the show together. The set list was the starting point and the biggest challenge was to represent my finest records and also my personal favourites. 'Showgirl' has taken just under a year to design and build, but it has been a lifetime in the making."
The show features an amazing cross-section of Kylie hits, some performed in a brand new style. All periods of Kylie's career are celebrated, from the beginning up to her new single 'Giving You Up'.
'Showgirl' is split into six themed sections and could be said to be a celebration of the burlesque. It collects together the best creative talents in music, fashion and the arts in a performance that is hugely celebratory a SHOW in the most glamorous sense of the word. 'Showgirl' was created and directed by Kylies long-time creative director, stylist and friend, William Baker.
Choreography is by two award-winning choreographers, both with their own distinct style - Michael Rooney, who choreographed the award winning videos 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head' and 'Slow', and Rafael Bonachela, who choreographed Fever 2002 as well as Kylie's latest video 'Giving You Up'.
There are many visual highlights in the show the colourful opening is all diamonds and feathers, with Kylie wearing a glittering couture corset, feather showgirl crown and bustle, designed by John Galliano. This outfit took four months to make each jewel had to be hand sewn.
One section features a segment of 'In Denial', Kylies duet with Neil Tennant of Pet Shop Boys, which opens a ballet sequence set on the streets of Soho. There is also a Hollywood section which Kylie opens with a cover version of a classic Hollywood weepie.
A club section features graphics inspired by ID magazine, a special film of club legend Princess Julia inspired by the Visage video for 'Fade To Grey', and clothes inspired by Katharine Hamnett's iconic slogan t-shirts of the '80's.
Kylie's costumes have been designed by couturiers Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, John Galliano and Julien Macdonald; other designers include Gareth Pugh, Mr Pearl, Moschino, William Baker, Bodymap, and new designer Ed Meadham. The dancers sport a number of looks including, in one raunchy '50's beefcake-inspired shower sequence, Galliano Homme underwear.
The Lido in Paris supplied the feathers whilst all hosiery on the tour is, of course, LK Legs by Love Kylie. A tiny corset worn by Kylie was designed by Mr Pearl, famous for having trained his own waist into an 18 inch corset.
Kylie's jewellery is by Bulgari and her millinery is by Stephen Jones. Shoes are by Manolo Blahnik.

While Kylie is wowing fans on her Showgirl Tour, a collection of her costumes and memorabilia will be on a tour of a different kind across Australia!
The Kylie Exhibition at the Melbourne Arts Centre has already drawn record attendance since doors opened to the public at the beginning of the year and now it's on the move!
The exhibition features over 300 costumes and other items donated by Kylie including the infamous white muslin dress seen in 'I Should Be So Lucky', those legendary gold hotpants from 'Spinning Around', the showgirl costume from 'Intimate & Live' and the amazing Silvanemesis outfit from 2002s Fever tour.

Formats and tracklistings have been officially confirmed for Kylie's new single 'Giving You Up' which hits the shelves on 28th March.
'Giving You Up' will be available on 12" picture disc, enhanced CD and a 2-track CD backed by the previously unreleased 'Made of Glass', which was recorded during the Brian Higgins (Xenomania) sessions for 'Ultimate Kylie'.

The Magic Roundabout, the new feature-length animation version of the much-loved classic featuring Kylie as the voice of Florence, is the biggest family film at the UK box-office at the start of half-term!
Its box-office gross of 1,569,843, at the end of its first weekend with previews, puts it ahead of rivals, Spongebob Squarepants, Racing Stripes and Son of The Mask.

Kylie greeted fans yesterday at the charity premiere of The Magic Roundabout in London's Leicester Square in aid of the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity.
Thousands of screaming fans turned up to see Kylie and she did not disappoint. Looking stunning in a red Issa dress and black Manolo Blahnik shoes, Kylie took time out to greet fans and sign autographs on the magical green carpet before going inside to pose for photos by a giant chocolate Dougal!
Kylie voices Florence in the all new computer animated 'The Magic Roundabout' which opens nationwide on 11th February.

Kylie Minogue, Australia's premier pop icon, delighted fans when she confirmed the much anticipated Australian leg of Kylie ' Show Girl: The Greatest Hits Tour at the opening of her exhibition Kylie at the Arts Centre in Melbourne today.
Kylie confirmed that the new tour will be her first national tour of Australia since her twenty-concert sell out On A Night Like This tour in 2001. Time constraints had limited her sell out Fever tour in 2002 to just Sydney and Melbourne.
Kylie currently holds the record for the biggest selling female artist in Australian concert history, with ticket sales in excess of half a million.
Kylie said earlier today she was delighted to be confirming her 2005 Australian tour dates while at home in Melbourne.
"I'm very excited to be coming home to tour in May and June," Kylie said.
"This is my most ambitious show ever; it needs to be in order to do justice to all the hits.
"It will be two hours of music and memories; and I promise some surprises!"
Kylie announced the European leg of her tour in 2004 and the tour exploded from the original dates to a thirty-five date run. Ticketing websites and booking agencies went into meltdown as the systems literally couldn't meet the demand for tickets.
Show Girl will revisit Kylie's extensive back catalogue from the past seventeen years including her new hit single 'I Believe In You' and upcoming release 'Giving You Up' from her recently released greatest hits package 'Ultimate Kylie' (Festival Mushroom Records).
The tour is being flagged as Kylie's biggest show to date. Renowned for staging concerts which combine state of the art technology with highly innovative sets, choreography and costumes, the Show Girl tour will realise months of planning and development. An enormous AUS$3 million stage will be especially shipped from the UK for the Australian tour.
And while no money will be spared in the production of the tour (staging of Show Girl will exceed the AUS$10 million cost of the Fever tour), Kylie is adamant the costs won't subsequently hit the wallets of her fans. After a number of discussions with promoter Michael Gudinski, it was decided to keep ticket prices exactly the same as her 2002 Fever tour.
Michael Gudinski said the decision is illustrative of Kylie's long term dedication to her fans. "Kylie wanted to ensure that her Show Girl ticket prices were kept as reasonable as possible.
"This is an enormously spectacular show, which will cost a fortune to stage, but Kylie's decision from day one was to keep the prices as they were on her last tour."
Tickets for Kylie ' Show Girl: The Greatest Hits Tour will go on sale on Monday 31 January 2005 at 9.00am. To ensure equal opportunity for all fans, there will be no pre-sale for this tour.

Congratulations to Kylie for her nomination in the category of Best International Female at the Brit Awards 2004.
This is the sixth time that Kylie has been nominated for Best International Female which she won in 2002 along with the prestigious 'Best International Album' award for the multi-million selling 'Fever'.
Other nominees for this year's award include Alicia Keys, Anastacia, Gwen Stefani, Kelis.
The Brit Awards 2004 take place at Earl's Court in London on 10th February.
