KYLIE DELIGHTS AT PRESS CONFERENCE
16.11.2003

Kylie Minogue

The world's press descended upon London's Hammersmith Apollo at lunchtime today for an audience with Kylie to talk about about the launch of her brilliant new album, 'Body Language' and the exclusive 'Money Can't Buy' concert taking place this evening.

Kylie looked radiant as she posed for photographers and charmed international media in the press conference that followed. Kylie confessed to being a bit nervous about this evening's one-off concert but was confident that the last six weeks hard work would culminate into one of her most spectacular live shows ever.

"The band have been rehearsing for the last five weeks, the dancers for the just over three weeks, and me whenever I could, so I'm the last bit! It has been pretty intense. I'm trying to look really calm but it has been an intense fews weeks leading up to today!"

Kylie didn't want to give to much away about the set list but said there would be a few oldies in there! "Not very oldies though; we are stepping marginally back in time! It's always difficult choosing - for a start choosing which new songs to perform from the album and then what's gonna work with the old ones. But, yeah, there's a couple of surprises in store and also some real trainspotter surprises too!"

WILL BAKER GIVES THE LOW-DOWN ON MONEY CAN'T BUY!
14.11.2003

Kylie Minogue

We have less than 36 hours to go. We are currently loading an arena sized set into London's Hammersmith Apollo. It has been an intense couple of months... even though it's for one night only; it has taken the same amount of design time, preparation and production as for a whole tour.

We are all experiencing a mixed bag of emotions at this time'nerves mixed with excitement and a tremendous sense of anticipation. We also feel very ready. The finishing touches and fittings are taking place today in what is now a race against the clock.

The show follows the last two tours premise of being a show divided into different acts. This time there are four different sections. I was keen that the show bridged a gap between the On A Night Like This Tour and Fever, which were very different presentations; the first being based on a theatrical revue and the latter a contemporary dance piece. The show is based around the new album Body Language, with the emphasis upon the new songs. There are a few old songs in there as well, but be prepared for surprises. The set list comprises of thirteen songs. And the show's running time is approximately seventy minutes. It began life as an album launch. As with all things with us, we got a little carried away.

The management office and producers, creative teams and crew have been incredible putting a show together in what we thought was an impossibly short length of time. Steve Anderson, Musical Producer and I have been again joined by set designer and creative collaborator Alan Macdonald. We are lucky enough to have the same band, with the addition of four new backing vocalists and the sound is incredible. The new songs are quite literal interpretations, whereas the old songs'well, you'll have to wait and see.

Award winning Michael Rooney (Can't Get You Out Of My Head, Slow) has choreographed the show and we have a cast of 12 dancers, 7 boys and 5 girls.

Visual influences and inspirations have been varied as usual, from Brigitte Bardot and her seventies TV specials with Serge Gainsbourg, to electronica, Boy George, Martha Graham, 'An American in Paris' and Gene Kelly.

There have been several different fashion designers involved but we feel particularly honoured to have collaborated with Emilio Pucci, iconic Florence based print house whose colourful, incredible artistry have become synonymous with Riviera chic and glamour. For the first time ever they have allowed use of their prints to be utilised as part of a theatrical design, in creating a particularly special and beautiful section of the show entitled 'Bardello'.

Other designers who have created Kylie's costumes for the show include Helmut Lang and Chanel.

It is a personal pleasure to have been working with the legendary stylist and jewellery designer Judy Blame, the man responsible for creating some of the most memorable avant-garde pop/ fashion images of the last fifteen years with his work with artists such as Boy George, Neneh Cherry and for magazines such as I-D and The Face. He designed much of the waist syncher corsets and berets that are an integral part of Kylie's new look.

We have again been working with Stevie Stewart and Bodymap, who revolutionised eighties design with their innovative cutting technique and use of sportswear fabrics...

The reason for placing it in the Apollo was to hopefully recapture the intimacy and closeness of Intimate and Live, as at points on the last tour we felt the icon was in danger of overshadowing the person and personality. The theatrical stage always seems like the perfect home for Kylie, and allows for a very particular type of celebration of a very special bond that I know exists between her and her fans. She is Kylie. We are not talking about an untouchable 'American' style star invisible through an entourage of hundreds. She is the same girl I met ten years ago and the same girl that you all have loved, adored and followed, some for even longer than that. Saturday night is a moment that she will cherish for the rest of her life...we hope that it will be an equally special and memorable night for all of you...

KYLIE'S BEST SHOW YET!
30.10.2003

Kylie Minogue

If you were thinking that Kylie's 'Money Can't Buy' spectacular wouldn't scale the heights of her 2002 Fever World Tour then think again!

The technology that Kylie and her team are using for this one-off show is the same level used on the last year's sell-out tour, only this time it's for an audience of just 4,000 people and for one night only!

The last time Kylie played at Hammersmith with her On A Night Like This Tour she sold out 7 nights, so this is a very intimate show for both Kylie and her audience.

"Kylie is putting as much effort into preparing this one-off show as she has done for previous whole tours," says a spokeman. "Each show that she does seems to top the last in terms of imagination and creativity and it looks like this will be the best one yet."

On Saturday 1st November Kylie.com will be giving away the first of 10 pairs of tickets to Kylie's 'Money Can't Buy' concert.

KYLIE'S DOIN' IT FOR THE KIDS!
24.10.2003

Kylie Minogue

Kylie Minogue, Ambassador NSPCC

The NSPCC is delighted to announce the appointment of Kylie Minogue as its first ever Ambassador for the Society.

In her role as Ambassador, Kylie will lend her support to NSPCC-led campaigns and act as an advocate for young people. The NSPCC are honoured to be chosen by her.

Speaking on her new role with the NSPCC, Kylie said; 'Cruelty to children is an everyday occurrence, which must be stopped. The work undertaken by the NSPCC is essential and I fully support its mission to end child cruelty. I support its vision of a society in which all children are loved and valued. The levels of abuse in this country are shocking. Without charities like the NSPCC, they would be worse. Together, we hope to improve the lives of children within the UK.'

The NSPCC's purpose is to end cruelty to children. Such a challenging aspiration requires a major shift in society. The NSPCC cannot fulfil this goal alone, therefore seeks to work in partnership with other agencies and individuals like Kylie. Its activity, including the running of 180 projects throughout the UK is both supported and made possible by fundraising programmes and the contributions of all its partners.

In addition to 180 projects on the ground (including Young Peoples Centres and Family Support Units), the NSPCC leads national public education campaigns and runs a free, 24 hour, seven days a week Child Protection Helpline. In her home country, Kylie has given her support to Kids Help Line, Australia's own Child Protection Helpline. The NSPCC was a natural choice for her due to the link between the two. Kylie feels the helpline is an important tool in providing young people with someone to turn to; she said 'talking about a problem can help to stop it.'

The NSPCC Child Protection Helpline, staffed by experienced child protection workers, provides counselling and information advice and assistance to anyone concerned about the welfare of a child. The service answers 250 calls on an average day and receives around 125,000 calls per year. Offering the public a service of this nature ensures they always have someone to turn to.

In her Ambassadorial role, Kylie will particularly support the work of the NSPCC's Child Protection Helpline. However her role will not end there. Her involvement with the Society's work will range from supporting the charity's FULL STOP Appeal to providing auction items at major fundraising events.

Mary Marsh, Chief Executive NSPCC commented on Kylie's new role with the Society 'We are delighted to name Kylie as our Ambassador for young people. We are honoured that she is lending her support to the Society and our work in protecting children. With Kylie as an NSPCC advocate we hope to reach even more children and young people that need our help and offer them Someone To Turn To. We look forward to a long and prosperous relationship with Kylie. Together, we are determined to fulfil our goal in ending cruelty to children.'

NSPCC Child Protection Helpline Service
John Cameron, Head of Helplines for the NSPCC says: "The NSPCC Helpline works hard to reach out to all parts of the community. Having Kylie as an Ambassador is a big boost to our profile, making sure everyone knows that support and advice is always available to anyone who is concerned about child abuse. On behalf of all the Helpline counsellors I would like to thank her for her commitment to the NSPCC and to children and young people."

The national telephone Helpline operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing counselling, information and advice to anyone concerned about a child at risk of ill treatment or abuse. The Helpline service receives around 125,000 calls a year. A textphone service is available for the deaf and hard of hearing and the NSPCC also operate an email service, the Cymru/Wales Child Protection Helpline and the Asian languages Child Protection Helpline which celebrates its second anniversary in 2004.

The NSPCC Child Protection Helpline - 0808 800 5000 (textphone 0800 056 0566) -Calls to the Helpline are free. Expert advice is also available online at www.nspcc.org.uk http://www.nspcc.org.uk or e-mail to help@nspcc.org.uk

NSPCC Campaigning in 2004

The NSPCC is launching a major public education in the New Year to encourage children and young people to seek help for their problems. Though children and young people may suffer from problems such as bullying, family break-up, abuse or depression, research has revealed that they can be reluctant to talk about their problems. Someone To Turn To will inform children and young people to sources of advice and support available to them.
