Return to stage

Saturday 11 November:

  • Kylie resumed the sellout
Showgirl Tour; her opening words, as she rose from below the stage on a platform dressed in a pink feathered head-dress and flowing gown by John Galliano, were "Good evening Sydney!". For 30 seconds in between her ascension and the beginning of the first song, Better the Devil You Know, Kylie received a standing ovation from the audience. The emotional comeback performance was watched by her parents and her then French boyfriend/actor Olivier Martinez at the side of the stage, and 10,000 fans. Despite being in recovery from breast cancer, it was Kylie who asked the all-important question of the night, "How're you feeling tonight?"

For almost two and a half hours Kylie entertained the audience with a collection of songs from some of her biggest disco and dance-oriented pop hits, through to some of her lesser known favourites.

Manchester cancelled shows

Kylie had to run off stage 45 minutes into the Saturday, 13th January show, as she and all of her band had the flu. The crowd were overall supportive, but some booed. Kylie was forced to cancel the Monday, 15th January and Tuesday, 16th January shows - but less than a week later announced rescheduled dates for both to Sunday 21st January and Monday 22nd January. She also did another show for all of the people who attended the 45-minute long show on 23rd January. Her spokesman said: "Kylie has been diagnosed by doctors as having a moderately severe respiratory tract infection and doctors have insisted that she not perform in the immediate future".
